I sort of reverted to lurking for a while, mostly due to an excessive number of early office parties, and a generally busier life than I would prefer
. But man, this has become a favorite haunt. I learn new stuff basically every time I pop in.
I should probably put stuff up in shorter intervals to avoid novella length posts like this... Um, sorry?
So I took some detail pics, and there were a few other things I don't think I've posted. Some of these are pretty easy to make and might be useful to folks, like the columns, and the sacrifice poles. Others might take more time than is worth it to most (including me on some
).
Currently I'm working on a terrain-related project that's been making me sweat for the last couple of weeks heh. It's actually a gift, which is probly why I sweated so much. My mother in law has an extensive Christmas village and I'm making her a river piece, "commissioned" by the Mrs.
. It's my first time trying anything like it so I thought it might be interesting to throw up a couple progress pics. I was going to put them up at the end of this but it's already gone on long, and it's been a big enough project that it might just want its own post when it's done. I think I'm past the part where I could totally screw it up but I think I'll wait just in case
I can't remember anymore if I showed these 2 hills, I finished them a while ago. This probably completes my hill collection for the foreseeable future. I'm comfortable cycling these in and out over encounters for a while at least. I like them but have some ideas on things I'd do differently.
My fledgling throne room sets. I wanted a royal set and a sinister one. The columns are mock candlesticks out of wood. They were pretty cheap and very easy to paint up. I've had a hard time finding Woodsies type pieces locally but these were nice. I haven't painted lines this fine before so the sun on the throne is a bit on the rough side.
A new big treasure pile. I sanded the shield out of a craft stick which worked... Ok. My wife suggested fake nails and I'm planning on trying that when I have time. Seems like they would make nice oval shields, and will probably trim well for shaping.
The sacrifice poles. These were pretty easy to put together and I can see all sorts of uses in the near future
Beginnings of generic furnishings. The barrels were lifted from an old lego set. I tried out a few bed versions. Planning on making up a few more of each version, except the canopied bed (sorry for the bad shot heh). Mostly to see if I could, I gave the cart moving wheels. It was ultimately more trouble than it was worth
. But it was an excuse to tinker. Also my daughter demands moving parts on her commissions for doll accessories, so it's become slightly ingrained... I actually started making Barbie crap before i ever made dnd props... Which is a bit sad now that I stop to think about it... Anywho, moving on
I saw thedmg's lever vid and made a moving version with a rod axel and a bead at the lever's base to swivel. Gonna make another couple for puzzle purposes ("find the correct combo to open the door, but don't get it wrong unless you like poisonous snakes falling on you
"). I could have just made them stationary much more easily, and it's probably more practical heh. But I enjoy the moving parts for some reason, pain in the butt though they are...
New shots of the ballista. These are quite big, I may try making smaller ones that would fit in a hallway or take up less than 20'x20' heh. These work in large rooms to cover doors, or for outdoor and siege scenarios. No moving parts on these haha
And the new spiral staircase. I've made flagged versions of all my stairs, but none got the same level of detail as this. There's probably a better way to do this but I like how it turned out.
I quite enjoyed DMScotty's foamboard graves but wanted older graves, where the raised ground would not be as pronounced, so I just made small bases for them.
An attempt at a 2.5d building, thinking of maybe making a half dozen or so to have a selection.
