Hello,
im new to the craft and the forum. i just got the basic tools to start crafting and i need to get some cardboard (surprisingly there's very little in my house). the thing is, i dont know what cardboard to get, i feel the ones ive found around (mainly from boxes) are reallly weak and not appropriate and my dad has this very rigid and strong ones but maybe they are too expensive and a bit of an overkill. how do i know if a type of cardboard is good for making tiles or if its too weak? thanks in advance for helping me with my stupid question.

I think it depends on how much you paint it, but I'm no expert there.

Corrugated cardboard from cartons works fine - either one or two thicknesses. I prefer single layer, personally, because it is easier to cut and has a low profile - though it can warp a little with paint. DMGInfo (check out his channel if you haven't already!)uses two layered cardboard to great effect.
If you are paying for cardboard, something has gone wrong! Part of the beauty of this craft is the low cost materials. Ask supermarkets for banana boxes or other stock cartons. They usually just say "help yourself!"
Every time I go shopping, I grab some empty boxes to pack the groceries in. Most of my cardboard is from soy milk 12 x 1 litre packs.

Oh No!! Don't pay for it. Go to a shop and ask for some boxes. Cyan Wisp has the right idea. If you are near an office supply store, like Staples or OfficeMax, ask for the boxes that the chair mats come in. They are double corrugated and flat. Bring a box knife with you to cut it to get it in your vehicle. Refrigerator boxes are also double corrugated so places like Lowes and Home Depot will often let you have them. The key is to catch them the day of or after truck day.

Well i live in Peru, so no staples or Home depot for me, but ill go looking for stores of the like (sodimac is a construction and decoration store i guess this would work). my dad is an aqruitect and he often has mock-up maderials around that he needs to get for his work thats why i mentioned the cardboad he had. he also has something called celtex which is pretty cool for modeling but breaks the purpose of using inexpensive cardboard. i just talked to him and he said hes tried getting boxes from sodimac before but they arent very helpful about it and they make you wait for hours yes i have seen the DMG's videos they are awesome! one more question. if you have a single layer corrugated cardboard and it feels pretty floppy or bendy is it okay to use? (besides the warping issue) well, anyways, thank you very much for the replies ill go cardboard hunting now!

It really boils down to what you are comfortable with. When I started watching DM Craft/DMGinfo videos, I was very worried about warping tiles. I was so worried that my first dungeon was made from tiles that were three layers of single corrugation cardboard that I glued up alternating the grain of each layer of cardboard, plywood style. But that means you need 3 times as much cardboard and a lot of glue... and at the end of the day they still warp a little. Next, I tried using 1/8" plastic as my tile bases because I had a ton of it laying around. But it is very hard to cut, and the heat from the hot glue can warp those too. I am now using a single layer of cardboard. Does it bend and warp? Sure it bends, but it is easy to bend back.
About how floppy is it? I don't think it's floppy at all. And even if you made a tile from a piece of paper, once you lay it down on the table it's fine.
Go luck with your cardboard hunt!

Single-layered corrugated cardboard works just fine for me, since it's what's readily available at work.
