Here's a quick fungus-build... Q: What do you get if you throw together a lightbulb, a large hexnut and an Warhammer ogre head? A: A giant fungus... ...with a weird or horrific twist: The tone of this encounter depends on how you want to use this thing in your game: It can be a smart aleck that coughts up the much-needed information when the players do it some favour, or it can beg to be killed (think Alien movies). It might be able to cast spells at them, spit slime or pollen at them. As usual, I haven't made up my mind how to paint this thing...

I did a few big shrooms, about as tall as a mini. Easy and cheap way. Take a sqaure or two of toilet paper, do the water and glue dip. I slipped it over the tip of my finger to get the dome shape and set them down on a cutting board to dry. Tight spin on another few peices for the stalks and let them dry. Good variety on the sizes you can make. You can leave it the way it is after drying or texture with sand or hot glue, or however you want. Other option is that you can paint them before or after hot gluing them to the stems and base. Thats my go to method. Pics or it didn't happen.

Q: What's better than cool mushrooms? A: Cool mushrooms that glow!

Brilliant use of materials It might be good thing I don't have any smd's lying around or I would have foregone on the home improvement I should be doing right now. EXALT! This will be bouncing around in my mind for a while.

Wow! Great vid! Not only was the project cool, but there were tons of little tip and tricks within it. I might just mess around with some glowing mushrooms.... Lightupus Fungus Curufinus

I imagine a large number of glowing mushrooms, colored in all kinds, all over my crafting area in the new house. It wouldn't provide any useful light but boy would it look cool!

I might make a bunch of them just to decorate the garden, solar powered if I find the stuff cheaply enough.

Of cours I couldn't wait... I'll use a battery-powerd LED light chain instead of soldering stuff together. I'm losing some flexibility that way (although I could extend some of the wire where required) but it frees up a lot of time. If it looks like an unholy mess, that's because it is. I totally overestimated the amount of color required, so the first batch (a reddish brown) didn't let any light through. I had to add more silicone to 'thin it down'. The next batches I made with considerably less color and it worked well. Twenty mushroom heads are hardening right now: I made only the caps, because I didn't want to commit myself to how I want to arrange the colors (in color groups, probably). Now I need to find an old driftwood board, make some holes and finally get my act together and do the stems...

Just bought a solar powered led string with flowers that either blink or burn solid during the darker hours of the day for up to 10 hrs. Found it on e-bay and couldn't resist... damn you Tauster

- grabbed a driftwood plank - placed all LED's - drilled 20 holes (and killed a drill... which is bad, but even wors is that it wasn't my own drill ) - undid the clingfoil so that the silicone can cure properly, and lose some of it's stink I hope that I can do the stems soon, so that this doesn't become one of the countless unfinished projects...

That was a very cool video. Lots of cool ideas. I did like the stems and how pliable they were.
I had a cool idea to add to this. You could do an underwater theme with jellyfish using this technique. That would be cool.

New here, but I just had to register to say how cool an Underdark mushroom forest with glowing mushrooms would be!

New here, but I just had to register to say how cool an Underdark mushroom forest with glowing mushrooms would be! That would awesome indeed. A (flickering) LED tea-light could be used as a base for a silicone mushroom. Have to think about that one... ...oh, and welcome on board!

Thanks a ton. Imagine your players coming into a dark room - much like the Underdark - then hitting switches one by one!
