Hey Uncledog, how does the expanding foam hold up to hot glue (of course after it is cured after a few days and all)? Would be pretty disgusting with some veins and arteries on a huge intestine looking or melted flesh looking pile. Would make a wicked evil "god" of some post apoc cult who likes to hang out at an abandoned chemical plant and get some sick mutations and boils I'm not much into zombies but might also make an interesting zombie like critter.... a bunch of dead almost liquefied putrid remains wondering around the country side. "I didn't want to go anywhere near that rendering plant before the zombies came around and I sure don't want to go near it now!" *in my best Scooby Doo old guy voice*

I've had some luck with a low temp glue gun, I've singed it pretty bad with my beefy hot glue gun though. I'll see what I can do about getting a few tests and documenting them for you, I have quite a bit of scrap.

Don't go through any extra trouble on my account. I still need to buy another can of it for a hole under my bathroom sink (draft coming in plus the cats always want to sick their heads in there. The singed might actually not look bad if going for a mutant effect.

O.k. ran the glueguns, here is what I ran with and the results: Both guns did quite well on smooth and rough surfaces (on low for the dual temp), the hot setting was a little hard to get positioning and had a longer cure, more mess. Blue craft Low temp side: the low on the dual temp was the same, slightly better adhesion. High temp: Way too runny for good details. The 'puncture' was from me really laying it on in there, the tip just jumped in. My opinion: If you have a low setting or a cheapo craft gun, stick to that. Work quickly and keep an eye for bubbling from the foam, if that happens, unplug glue gun for a bit and start again after it's cooler. Aside from that, it's good stuff on Great Stuff. Good adhesion as well, the foam ripped before the glue gave.

Thank you sir. And a for "I love it when a plan come together". I was thinking of running a single smaller bead down some for a varicose vein look instead of blobs... but hmm, a blob would be a nice looking tumor effect "The Blob". I lived a block away from the diner that was in the original Blob movie.

I hear their jelly sandwiches are to die from... er for. Haha, no problem, I had everything out, as I am actually working with the foam now. The single vein will work.

Hehe, but the biker bar across the street from the place was perfect. Get totally smashed, stagger across the street, stagger 100ft, climb stairs and was home.

I have issues with stairs when smashed. It's odd, because when I am fershnikit I become a gymnast. Stairs though... become that water slide that no one can climb.

Going out to work one morning stone cold sober was down the stairs before I even knew I fell.... Gravity, it will bit your butt every time! If I was crafting back then it would have been a good spot, right next door to a convenience store so cardboard and foil rolls out the ying yang. Hmmmm, bottle caps from beer used as gears on some of the machines I am thinking of making

I'm toying with the idea of applying the foam over a curved surface by laying something under the baking paper; after it hardened, I could use it as a kind of organic bridge that spans over an underdark chasm. Though I'm not sure my players will have the guts and step on such a bridge... ...done! --> click here

Nice.... and the nature of the foam would fit in very good with DM Scotty's alien stuff he did.

Been working on the beholder. It's finally taking shape. Should I put a teaser image up?

O.k.. but it's -VERY- in progress. Phone image. Please forgive the blur. I have documented pretty much everything, so in the end, if tutorials are wanted... they will exist. The only real pride I have so far are the little eyes. What a pain they were. Measuring from eyestalk to eyestalk, this is just over three feet wide. Going to be building a stand for it, so it can grace my livingroom.

...three effing feet?¿!? *gasps in awe*
I know my wife would never allow me to hang it in the living room - heck, even I am not sure I'd hang it there - but still the idea is tempting. :-)
Wrapping the tentacles with aluminum foil is a great idea - instant texture!

Pretty much free bulk with minimal weight. I still have some... twisted plans for this guy. I'm hoping in the end that he/she looks good enough to display and eventually sell (Sell? Am I crazy?)... so I guess it's going to come down to the finishing touches and paint. The fiddliest parts have been the teeth. Don't want to be too cartoony, yet not so realistic that it throws off the rest. Luckily... I have found that balance with one of the least likely of objects. Oh, here is the kicker. I haven't spent a penny on this yet. All leftover/stuff I already had and wasn't using. The expanding foam was nearing it's expiration (yup, it goes bad, won't expand, etc). Had a metric crapload of everything else from commissions that never panned out or leftover from previous commissions. If I had to estimate cost of buying everything, it's be ranging about forty US bux.
