This is an interesting trap. It starts out that, in one of the main rooms of the dungeon, there is a locked door. If the thief/rogue lock picks it (there is no key to it) it opens to a wall. Then the entrance to the room is blocked by a portcullis. Then the floor slowly starts sliding out from the room. The only way to not fall into the pit is to do a agility check and attempt to hold onto the portcullis. After the floor slides out completely, a platform extends out under the portcullis, and the portcullis opens. If you fall in the pit, you would end up in a cave system that connected to the dungeon through a secret door only openable from the cave. Perhaps there would be some sort of monster nest.. Basilisks maybe.

If ypu wanted to be cruel, you could have the wall behind the trap door slide open to actually reveal a secret passage. This happens only after the platform under the portculus slides out...all the way across the toom. Meaning that to even access the now revealed "secret passage" the PC's have to get over a huge pit...

It would be a fun way to split the party up for a little while as well.
