OK I know it's not exactly a trap, but it kinda is. The players walk into a room filled with statues made out of crystals. A perception check will reveal that the have magic energy in them. If a mage tries to investigate one of the statues, three things will happen. 1 The mage will either lose a daily power or an encounter power (up to the DM), 2 all the status will come to life, and three the entrance and exit will be covered by magic crystals. The statues will have 3 attacks-a melee attack that is basically a strong blow, a ranged attack that will throw magic crystals, and a magic attack that will make crystal walls that will go away after 2 movement phases or if the caster is killed. This can only be used twice the whole encounter, as the statues all have a single mana store.

I have a crystal golem that I made (super easy and cheap too). This setup will be a great way to incorporate into my world. Thanks for the tip, friend!

Way cool man. The statues have a mana source? You might be able to play with that a bit too.... Crystals basically grow. If the PCs hack off an arm or cause damage the statues might be able to regrow the crystals back (like a self healing ablative armor). So they would regenerate until the players take out the power crystal. Just an idea depending on much of a sadist you want to be

Perhaps hidden somewhere in the room Is the statues unified power crystal that, if destroyed, would kill all the statues/golems. One sure fire way to destroy the golems would be with a blunt weapon, smashing the golem to the point that it couldn't reform.

yeah either powering them or having it be like some sort of regenerating "lamp" like crystal. Feed the players hints that flaked off bits are growing back when they get near a crystal stalagmite that glows with the same type of blue energy that the golems have. Or that they take more damage the further away they are from it. $3 or so for a caulk gun and tube of caulk (which will give you way more than you will ever need). I think the smaller tubes are about $2.
Trying to remember the video DM Scotty did. Glue a wood screw to a base, stick it in the nozzle of the caulk and just make some beads on it as you go up. Top it off with an other crystal bead.
A nice way to include a bit of a puzzle/problem solving in with some combat.
With the way you made those golems I'm sure the power crystal is going to look cool too.

With the way you made those golems I'm sure the power crystal is going to look cool too. Thanks. I just need to pick up more gray paint... Ran out over the weekend lol. I will post the creation of the power crystal in the general crafting section when I get the materials together. Thanks for the suggestion.

I picked up the bigger containers of black and white a while back. Always good to have some extra on hand for doing some black washes for shadows and that ut oh time when you used you'r lightest green as a base coat instead of saving it for the dry brushing

Sorry about reviving an old thread, I just was looking through and realized I never made the energy crystal that runningwolf and I were discussing. I'll have ti get on that now that my craft area has finally been (somewhat) unpacked

Looking forward to seeing your creation. Also thank you for reviving the thread I think this idea is great and I'll be working on a way to implement a similar encounter for my party. I love this forum. So many DM's sharing their deviously deadly dungeon designs. It's fantastic!

I've had a lot of success just cutting hot melt glue sticks into crystal shapes for clusters on terrain or as base decoration on miniatures.. no reason why you couldn't construct the entire miniature using nothing but a single armature wire and carved, assembled hot glue sticks.
