Hello everyone! I've been lurking around this forum for a while, but haven't really introduced myself yet. My name is Robur (It's Latin for Strength), as of May 2014 I'm 14 years old, turning 15 in July. I live in IJsselstein, Netherlands, (which is left next to Germany for those who don't know) so excuse my English if I'm using it incorrectly. School keeps me busy a lot, though I manage to sneak in some crafting, browsing the forum and the off episode of anime once in a while. I got into dnd at the age of around 10-12ish. Me, my little twin brother and my dad were playing MTG for a while and my brother and I had heard of a fantastic game called Dungeons and Dragons and so my father got the 4e red box, we played it, got another scripted adenture, played that too, but then, our dad stopped playing and we were back to MTG and other stuff like Dragon Age and such. But around 1-2 years ago (when I went to middle school) we met some friends and started playing, with my bro as DM and having lots of fun. Then about a year ago, I ran int a fascinatoing channel called thedmscraft. I was intrigued, I begged my parents to go and buy supplies that I may craft myself. We immediately started playing gridless and it went fine. I now play with friends, running a custome made adventure, which I title: 'The Eye of The Chained God' (more about that in a later post). I really enjoy playing dnd and I look forward to many happy days! Cheers!

Your English is better than my Dutch! Ek kan Afrikaans praat, wat 'n klein bietjie soos Nedelandse taal is, as dit was van Nedelands gebore. My Afikaans is ook nie so goed nie . As jy Nedelands skryf kan ek dit verstaan, maar as jy dit praat, dan kan ek dit nie verstaan nie.

It doesn't matter DMG, English is a far more widespread language than Dutch is. Like we say in Dutch: De appel valt niet ver van de boom

Welcome aboard. Good to see the RPG torch being passed to a new generation As for your English, you're doing a lot better than some folks who were born and bred in the USA. I'm in my 40's and always get a bit jealous of the folks from other parts of the world who speak 2 or more languages. It's been so long since I spoke any Italian or Spanish someone could tell me I won a million dollars and I would just give them a dumb look. The main thing with another language is that usually what is taught in school is the formal language, close to but not exactly how people talk. Plus there are some thing different from country to country or even regional in the country. In other words don't worry about it. you're doing fine

School basically taught me nothing about English I grew up with parents who spoke a really high level of English and I saw a lot of English movies like: Star wars, Lord of the rings etc. I also watched a lot of YouTube, so English is like a second mother language to me, though I do make mistakes obviously.

There is nothing quite like hot glue to exposed flesh to bring new creativity to your curse words And nice to hear from you again 1999robur, I was wondering where you had got to!

A friend of mien and his family came over to the US from Italy. He learned English in a similar way, by listening to the radio. And being exposed to the language helps a lot too... And like the saying "goes use it or loose it". I'd be walking with my friend's father to the corner store. All of a sudden eh would say something I wouldn't understand (in Italian), and then realize that he had been speaking Italian for the past few minutes and knew what he was saying. As for making mistakes, don't worry about it. First off consider people like me who only speak one language (you're a step ahead of me speaking more than one). Second, with the internet, bad spelling, grammar, and misplacing a word here or there (in any language) is common Watching movies in English to learn the language Reminds me I need to call my friend Lenny ad hang out with him soon. He's originally from the Dominican Republic. Something Spanish would be said on TV and he'd be like "that's not what he said!" That's always made me wonder about any time they put subtitles in a movie when "the bad guys" are speaking Russian and such. Also the Netherlands, *sigh*. I so want to go there! Visit the land of van Gogh.

I learned Japanese from Samurai movies! I actually learn a bit of it from the anime I watch! I also do Judo and did Kendo, that helps.

Afrikaans is beautiful language for swearing If i swear in Dutch, would you understand me? For example, if I say: ''Godverdomme''. Would you be able to find out what is sweared?

Would you be able to find out what is sweared? heheh that was too easy..... ... I'm not offened by swearing to some extent but I try to watch myself and keep it to a PG level. Which is nothing too vulgar. My simple rule is would it be something I want my daughter to be exposed to. My daughter is your age so I just try to keep my language at a level that I wouldn't mind her hearing.... although back when I was your age *in my best grandfather voice* we swore just as much as the kids today. The stupid kids who play ball on my street swear worse than grown men who have just hit their thumbs with a hammer.

When I am with people who know me I use swearing like punctuation. When my brother and I get going it is used like the spacebar! I went to an all boys "old english style" school.

Nah just kidding I try to watch myself as well, though I am not offended by swearing (cause if I was I'd have a hard time at school), but I think it's just better if I don't swear as much. (Cause I'm a good boy! )

Plus if you use those words sparingly it has that much more effect when you do use them. If I spoke Dutch I'd have no time to live. Vincent wrote about 2,000 letters.
