Tonight I came up with what I think is a cool concept.
The party finds a dead rotted corpse carrying an aged scroll. I crafted this on a brown paper bag with burned edges and tied it up with green twine. The scroll reads...
"You shall see. Abe Dega will show the way!"
Later the group will come to a dead end. There will be pipes rising from the ground and a stone foot pedals in the shape of the keys on a keyboard.
C will activate the steam... cutting on the instrument. (You shall "C") A (steam erupts from one of the pipes and the "A" note resonates - this continues with each note below). B E D E G A
Cracks form in the walls revealing a passage.

I've been thinking of trying to make a puzzle tile a bit like the one in D&D Online. Cut 1'' tiles and painting a T, a curve, or a straight line on it. Have a power source and "pipe it" to power crystals for an effect to happen. Have some minor idea and not sure how they will work. Sort of like having small bits of match sticks glued to the base tile and a bead on the movable tiles. That presents it's own difficulties as well as having the floor moved up a 1/4 inch or so. Trying to pull off a puzzle in a game session can be hard. Some people love them, some people hate them. Trying to pull it off on a tile is another matter on top of that. DMREBORN - If your players like puzzles I know there has been a ton of them on John Four's Roleplaying Tips pages. RPG Tips I have been signed up to his newsletter for years. Good thing is that 99% of teh stuff he has is A> user submitted and B> you can crank out a few tips while on a coffee break or running back and forth to the stove while cooking dinner.

I like this idea - very Goonies! (One of my favorite movies.)
