has anyone attempted standard statues? I know you can simply use miniatures but I was wondering if there was a different way that any of you guys have tried. Thanks

I've made quick and dirty molds of simple miniatures using hobby clay as a mold, and then using hydrostone (a super-hard plaster) to make statues. It's tricky and may not provide the level of detail and accuracy you want, but it works well if you are looking for an old, beat-up and weathered statue.
I also use cheap plastic miniatures to make statues, but that's a bit of a crap shoot.
And, of course, I have sculpted my own, or modded existing miniatures and turned them into statues.
One thing that is pretty easy and can provide a nice visual is a half-statue, where you can make a depression in clay, then press a miniature halfway into the clay and use plaster or resin to cast the result. You end up with the effect of a statue carved into a wall, which is a nice effect on its own.

And don't forget you can cast it using hot glue as well. Perfect for a statue I'd say.

I know a few of use have bought some plastic figures at the dollar store, Batman, The Flash and Spiderman to name a few and turned those into statues! They're bigger than most minis and work pretty good, once you convert them a little so that people won't realize there Batman, etc.! Well except those of us who have done the same thing!

Mage Knight figures can be used for statues, as well, but sizes vary considerably. Some are inexpensive, and would be good 'masters' to use for casting, as mentioned already. There are 54/60mm toy figures which can be used, also: Cave Men, Vikings, Police, Army Men, etc., depending upon the genre, type, and size needed. Cheers!

find a small mini or statue at dollar store. paint with a paint on mold kit. remove mold and reuse to make castable plaster statues.

the actual wizards of the coast mini for statue is cheap and its on scale if you want a more scaled in statue. they have only one though... its either the bronze one or the metallic one. both have th esame minis just different colors and its of a mage in robe with his hands up. but they are great still !!!

I second the dollar store. I purchased the Christmas religious statues (3 wise men) primed them black and layed a heavy dry rushing of grey down. They look amazing. I also bought a medium sized (12") Buddah for 1.50 and gave it the same treatment. For table terrain this cheap and to look as good as is does I recommended it to anyone.

I need to get some angel ornaments to convert to statues and fallen angels.

I just used a bunch of Mage Knight minis I got from a friend, selected from the ones that were either already damaged or didn't survive being debased.

I've used action figures for statues before. To sell the statue look I built a plinth for it to sit on out of a wedding cake column.
