Hey Crafters,
I wanted to pick your brains a bit , I am running the 4e Tomb of horrors book adventure for a couple of friends and the first section is the Garden of graves. I am going to attempt to recreate the dungeon in 2.5 using foam board and such. there are some spots on the map where there is really thick brush which the players cannot pass through, what would be the best way to recreate this effect on the tiles?
thanks for any information
Jay

Woodland Scenics sell lichen that may be applicable. Also I think I saw a bag of sphagnam moss at a dollar store, but unsure if that would be too fragile.

Tear apart and spray paint a sponge or scouring pad. You can glue the chunks into bush shapes. Lower cost, but a greater time investment. It will definitely withstand abuse. A light coat of watered down white glue can make it a little bit more resilient too.

As ashrothedm says, Those green scouring pads make great impassable bush. You can also cut them in rectangular chunks to make hedge mazes.

I like the green scrubby brush suggestion myself. If you wanted to add some more detail/visual appeal, you could hack up some pieces of an aquarium plant or fake floral arrangement and glue them to the pad. Honestly, I've just used pieces of a fake plant in the past, and just explained to the players that it was virtually impassable thorn bush (I like leaving the option open for them to try to get through, but making it so clearly unpleasant and/or slow that they usually won't bother).
As for the lichen, I suggest skipping the woodland scenics brand. If you go the floral section of the hobby store, you can get the same stuff for a lot cheaper.

wait isn't the tomb of horrors the most hardcore ridiculous module Gygax ever made? How does that work in 4e? I mean I know you can die and stuff in 4e but doesn't 4e sort of make it easier to win usually?

4e created a version of the dungeon and they also created a campaign built around it. I would not say easier, just as deadly .
Thanks for all the awesome suggestions I'll post pics as I begin to construct the garden of graves !!!!

huh. I just know I've played the 3.5 got wrecked and DM refuses to even do AD&D due to how fast we'd get finished off
but yeah I've heard of people using the scrub brushes to make hedge mazes before
