i use the combat clears things from paizo. they works as well. but i am wondering... isn't the platform moving down on their own after a while ? i mean whats under the platform to hold it in place on the stick ?
also, another question... would bigger miniatures like large or huge minis actually hold on the thing or would they not just tip the thing entirely ?

I've been working in mcdonalds for a while now, told people that i was taking those invoice plastic remains when the paper is gone and be replaced by another roll. those things can easily do pillars with ease. just need to add a top and a bottom and add some colors to them.

my players even in gridless games have started using the base of the minis to calculate their 5 feet increments. to the point where the stick was useless. the problem in our society is that everything can easily be measured by just looking around you. even if you dont put a grid, the miniatures still have 1 inch bases. harder to check on tin creatures, or small ones, but medium and up. all made with inches in head. so even if you dont have your gridded tiles or grid, you can still see the grid because of the mini. because the base is 1 inch. thus if i go forward 6 minis, i just did 30 feet.
that's why i say grid is always there, may you like it or not. measurements will always be there because everything in our world is measurements.

Here he comes ! Sa'rik The Deviant ! Husband to Morgath the Indomitable, he rules the 9th layer of the nine hells. also a cursed Orator, he is not afraid of trying new things and will constantly strive for more. all 7 sins are in him and he loves to make use of them all. Probably the only one who can tame the indomitable wife that he has. him and his wife are the Cursed Orator, the founders of the nine hells. if any contracts is to be broken or given to someone, they will usually have to go through these two. without further a due... Sa'rik the deviant !

Hey guys/girls, me again with more drawings ! haven't done much lately, but i still have some new stuff to show. you can see those works i do more then others. but heres the results and i am slowly upping the number of drawings to illustrate my world of Vesthea !
heres an abyssal spider, a creature i have created for the abyss. One of my player, a half drider was slowly turning into that monster because of his deity. tons of fun while it lasted.
One of my new player at the new campaign table, created a Kalashtar as a race. they are the people who are bound to a spirit of the dream world, they cannot dream anymore, but have numerous advantages against anything affecting their minds. heres Khadash, the spirit of good fortune. he has a long lineage and is bounded to Tuniaraa Kalashtar Female. and while i realise that those ears look like wings, they are just elephant like ears, not wings.
Last but not least, you already saw the sinner of gluttony, but i have to draw a few more, because there are 9 archdevils and i have only 2 drawn and a third one half way through. but here comes the big guns. she is Morgath the indomitable. she is the ultimate archdevil, called one of the Orators. her husband Sa'rik is also coming this way, i'm just not done with him. so without further a due, here's Morgath the indomitable, archdevil of the ninth layer of the nine hells. ruler of the nine hell with her husband. the both of them are claled the Cursed Orators. Basically, they have all 9 sins in them and just love their lives.

basically the only thing left to say is why the weight is is necessary... the center of gravity is what makes it easy to topple, basically all the weight is at the tp and should be at the bottom, as long as the bottom weight is more then the top, it will stand. anything with mass will do the trick. so as mentionned, rocks, washers, woods... anything that fits the heavy mass will do the trick.

Final version of Mammumuh, the Sinner of Gluttony. finally redid some of the highlights and the room and the throne as well.
Character from a friend, he absolutely didn't want me to draw his character, he found an image ont henet and said, thats him, thats my character. so i took the hellhound from the MM5e and still got my way by designing the background they are in. but i really wanted to draw his character.
Heres my next character into a campaign i'm waiting for. my friend is still planning her world. but once she's ready, i will be playing this beautiful pink elephant female that goes by the name Ankas, Iron Tusks. she is a defender of the realm. her title, Iron Tusk is given to her because she is a paladin and one of the highest title one can give to a soldier. at least in her tribe. alas she got kidnapped and now she is in another word with a bunch of strangers... at least thats where she'll start.
My wednesday game, here all 7 gems. and what they look like once transformed... Yes its only the heads but thats all i really need to show my players for them to understand. as an exemple... the kobold paladin who has the white gem, transforms into this 8 feet tall lady celestial. kinda like a valkiry.
When my sorcerer was transformed into a sentient dagger. i had to make another charcater... I present to you, Sans (french word for "without") she is a changeling druid with an archetype i'm trying to create. she serves a black panther by the name of Ganak. yes its a druid with a companion. heres the catch, the panther is the real character, the druid serves the panther. basically Sans is the guardien of Ganak. my character would do anythihng for ganak. using her ability to shape change into other people. she mimics their ways, steals their clothes and then pass for them and give ganak what he desires. she is logical and straight, but once she smokes, the night is hers only.
Not really the idea i had in mind, but its so hard to conceptualise the idea. once khandor my silver dragon became a sentient dagger. i imagined how he looked like. this is what i came up with. but i know its not really what i had in mind at first. i might redo this one day.
that is it again. haven't done much more work then this. but i intend to do much more characters and NPCs. poses were a big problem to me. but now i have 3 things to help me. my friend bought me a pose doll. and my other friend who incited me to draw more. explained to me that she uses a software called DesignDoll which is exactly just that. a software to help you do poses and lightning on your sketches. really neat. can add 3d objects to and link to their hands and feets and body parts. really neat. i also bought Pose Art 3D Pro on steam which is cheap yet has a lot, including muscles and already set poses.
overall i'm learning more and more, and i love those things.

Premise of the trap. characters are following a set of caverns that rolls around like a loop. in my case they were going downward. then they stopped going down. the trap is sprung there.
the characters unknowingly follows the loop. until they realise there is no exits, they just loop around. but do not seem to be able to find their way back up. they will all think teleports, or things like that. but the problem is much much more simpler then that. after losing precious time trying to find a way out. one of the players finally realised, it might justbe an illusion. and once he made an investigation check DC 20. with advantage if they have a dwarf with them. they finally realise.. the way going up was always there... aside the loop. it was just hidden by an illusion that they triggered once they entered the loop.
the loop looks like this... sorry for the crude drawing... Black lines are the looping caverns, the red line is the upward cavern that goes inside the loop. but once the players are inside, they need to investigate and realise there is an illusion covering the way out. its as simple as that.

Neat concept. Your players will be pissed, at first, because they can't use their standard tactics... Sounds like a very challenging concept, one that will truly require some outside the box thinking... Cheers! PS: This may, or may not help you, also assuming you are not aware of this technique... Read it in a product I bought off of RPGNow.com, for making fantasy maps. The author suggested that you draw your symbols large, then reduce them in a photocopier. This will reduce your errors in your symbol drawings. I'm particularly interested in your magic circle symbols. I may lift those for some glyphs on Holy Symbols for my clerics of the god of magic: their symbols change every couple of levels, as their granted powers change. Cheers, again! Not much creation really. i just took what D&D already had and put it all together in one big wheel describing how magic is linked in the universe.
heres the inspiration... That is the wheel of the planes from the 5e players handbook. my wheel has the 8 school of magic with their symbols included as well. the way i had it thought out was the same as the wheel of planes... going from the far realms to the inner working of vesthea itself. at the top we got the good planes and at the bottom the evil planes and from the left we got the lawful planes to the right where we got the chaotic planes. yes thats the alignment wheel as well. WotC had a lot of planning when they did this back in the days of yore.
that all said... the wheel i created was a circle of enchanting and magic in general. i wanted to have a wheel that encompasses everything, not just the planes. thats what i ended up with. Technically its not finished, but i had enough of trying to find new lines patterns for smaller circles.. so i ended up just letting the symbols of the planes and the 8 magic schools.

Thanks a ton, i don't know why i never released or showed my work. not even to my parents and close friends... comparing my stuff to others, its so hard to be confident when you see things much much much better then your own. I intend to try and start a web series, i think these drawings are my way in. the more i do the more i get the idea of what i want in that serie. thanks again for the support. heres one i already showed, the big bad of the friday game. they tryed defeating its thralls, now he had enough of the entertainment. he just swallowed the whole city in a wave of slimy doom. Next time they gain consciousness, they will all be inside of him fighting to survive and find a way out of this Consciousness realm that is Yz'Vash'Tul the old god of knowledge ! Gonna take them time to understand they cant just planeshift or teleport out because in reality they have no body to teleport. but once they realise that, either let go, either they fight Yz'Vash'Tul conscousness and get freed. we'll see how it goes !

Hey guys, i have long hesitated into showing off my different drawings on photoshop. as i am not a master or anything. i merely am an amature and was drawing mostly for fun and games. A friend of mine started showing me her drawings. and i realised, those are basics just like mine, yet she do not hesitates in showing them to the world. shes even proud of them. but when she started her campaign of D&D and started drawing all of her characters and NPC for everyone to have a good idea of it all. I felt compelled to start doing it again myself. i used to do that when i was in school and i stopped because i was horrible at drawing stuff...
Here i am about 2 months later, still in her gaming group, still loving her drawings, but most importantly... heres what i drew for both my d&d groups. notice i already showed you guys one of the drawings in another thread. but here are them all with a short description of whats missing and whats gonne come as well. and i'm always willing to get help on more drawing techniques.
without further due... here they are... starting with my most priceless piece... Khazan Zepheran is my main character in a group led by my friend. you can see my talent in all its glory. it was my first buying a sketch book and i knew i would put them on PC then. but you can already see the big faults here... very very bad proportions. i mean he has two biceps ! i know hes strong but when your muscles doubles , you start having problems. I still have to put this one on PC and redo him on photoshop and i just want to do it, but alas i have other stuff first.
next up... My Wednesday group, The names Malenka, hes a Jackal were. Though i'd like to have merits, i really do not, i took pictures off the internet from the official WotC monster manual and just traced the lines over. That said, the background and the clothing are mine. not to mention i was testing fur patches with a special brush i had made. so it wasn't all copied. This little guy is the person the players are looking up to when it comes to leadership, but men, do they wreck everything... their characters are supposed to be power ranger like charcaters that fght off evil and lizard invasions.... yet all they succeeded in doing in the few months we played... was to all fail lycanthropic desease rolls, getting cursed by an ice maiden for 2 months. Failing a simple go to point B from point A and deliver X item in Y time. and more recently, teleporting a whole city to the feywild with them in it by using an item designed to stop the previous ice maiden. also be transformed into stone by the final boss, because, hey hes alone and we dont care, so lets just walk into him without knowing a thing about him and his medusa like curse. be memory modified for a few days in the feywild by a mad tabaxi who just wanted friends and then failing all rolls leaving the feywild and ending up like 22 days after the original go, even though we all just left only 2 days ago. so basically... the whole war, the whole ordeal, has been literally stopped by my NPCs because the defenders of the realm were never there to begin with.
very fun game though, i ust love seeing them make mistakes after mistakes and then just laughing it up as they look like the worst power rangers you'll ever meet.
i could go on and on on this one... but let's go to the others... Wheel of Magic... One of my players Power Ranger Gem is that of a powerfull mage that had much powers over pretty much anything. hers the wheel of magic he uses in his chambers to enchant and summon stuff. at the center we have his teleportation circle, 5 places, and in green his actual spelled runes with a hidden message that says the wizard of the group is stupid. internal gag between us because the guy who plays the wizard of the group just does things without caring and ended up using things he shouldn't. like using a defunct teleporter that has only 25% chances of bringing you to the right place and a whooping 10% chances of sending you to another plane. yet apparently he preffered to take the odds instead of becoming a were raven. Guess where he landed ? on my chart, 2nd layer of the nine hells. thanks to him we now have two level 12 devils tieflings following him around. and once one of those tiefling freed one of the rangers prisoners... that prisonners killed the wizard, and then reanimated him as a tiefling devil himself. so now the player just regret ever taking his decision to try the teleporter. the whole group goes up in flames because of his deecisions... but hey, how can we not like him... he's just that fun to look at when he makes that, i am confused look when he realises there is consequences to his plays.
In my world of Vesthea, there are a bunch of immortals, lesser gods really who protect the world from intermediate gods. basically they manage countries, regions and the likes and makes sure other gods do not interrupt their world. This one is called Anamausa, the queen of Furs. She is a psychic beast creature that is responsible of the lycanthrope region they are in. she has a horde of werehare at her service and she manage her hive with her hive mind ability. the players always thought she was a villain, but in reality she is not a villain she just want the region to prosper and the war between the lizards and the lycanthropes isn't helping. she took some of the characters under her telepathic hive mind, but all of it was for their own good and she releaseed them after she achieved what she wanted. now she knows those people have a lot to do, but looking at them and how badly they run their aventuring group, shes not sure of anything and she's breaking bridges with them at this point. if they aren't carefull they might just loose their biggest ally in the upcoming war with the ice maiden. and since the seed that was supposed to get rid of her was used int he big city as a diversion instead. they lost their big chance of having it easy.
I've gone a long way since my debut 2 months ago. this is the devil of the fourth layer called Mammumuh. she is known as the nine hell grand mother. she is also known as the sinner of gluttony. right now she is missing her trone on which is sitting, and the background is also missing. i have to make those to finish this piece. Shes not a beauty but i love how she looks. sorry if we see some boobs, but i have to say... she's a devil and not much dress fits her because she is that fat. this villain is also boss to one of the 12th level character that followed the wizard friend. and now the wizard friend has become a tiefling of mammumuh. and thus now serves this one. reflection on her sleeves are fine because.. leather you know... but reflection on her skin is due to her sweating a lot. though i have a problem with said sweat. it looks like she is made of wax or something... need to work on that one.
the famous tabaxi they met that played with their memories. funny story... the players met him after he turned them back to flesh from their stone prison in the feywild. he's an old character of mine that i just leveled to 20. he was toying with them. as his job was just to bring them to his boss, the archfey of the unseelie court. they didn't stay with him long and the wizard guy still not understanding when to shut up. decided to just insult the cat. Vine Leaf Humble Wood, didn't take the insults... during the night he dominated the guy with a upped level 7 dominate spell... then just used his time to cast modify memory and changing the fight between the players and the redcap the day before. now the wizard thought the cat had saved him where all of his friends just stood there again, telling him he should proove he was that strong... madea ton of saves, once they all left him... 12 days later, he was now so modified, that he had no recollection of his friends, familly, nor even his childhood. to him he was born in the feywild, in a flower. sent to the material world of vesthea to learn wizardry and then came back to the feywild to his friends. his boss the archfey of the unseelie court was pleased with his services... until that tiefling girl came about, stole Vine Leaf gate cube and then cast greater restoration on the poor wizard who suddently now remembers two lives. the fake one and the true one. his biggest mistake had came back to save his ass. but when it came time to leave the feywild to their banished friends. the tiefling girl killed him and rezzed him as an adept of her boss. and now the aasimar wizard has become lawful evil and lost all celestial lineage to become all infernal. he now has a new goal is he must find a way to fight the urges of evil he has and to find a person who can cast true ressurection or wish on him.
Anothe rdrawing that has not much god from me... the form is from me, but the clothing i took on the net. drew lines and all, but i have no merit there. same with background. but i did learn opacity to great effect and how to do some reflection in when creating ghost entities. This is an undead creature i created called the Astral Nightmare. it started as a simple get drunk evening for the players when they found a blue bottle of liquid from another plane. it had a centipede like form at the bottom. once they finished the bottle they did the unimaginable... they played rock paper scissor to see who would swallow the centipede create. unknown to them, the creature is a parasitic undead who grows the more you feed it. and it has unlimited appetite. as the character grow with the undead it gives them ghost like powers who served well the players. but if they go out of power, they die. if they go over the power, they die as well. 4 deaths later, they finally decideded it was not a good thing to swallow that parasitic entity. but worse then that... the parasite was stuck int eh bottle for a good reason. its the one creating the ethereal alcool. that bottle was auto-refiling itself as long as the creature was in it. so they didn't just lose their own body to that parasite, they also lost a great bottle of booze.
A Mask they found in a shamans room. it acts as a memory jar where the shaman used some weird magic to transforms the essence of an ennemy into a mask of their former self. this one was a large creature named Olmag. its a devil that worked for mammumuh long ago. the tiefling girl found him and since she knew of him by reputation, she kept the mask. during their feywild adventures. she placed the mask on a satyr she found. 3 days later the satyr was no more and Olmag was free again. Olmag is the one who killed the wizard and asked for his tranformation into a tiefling. this guy is the reason the wizard player still wonders why he ever gone into the nine hells. finally understood what i meant when i said he'd never leave hell. he still pays for that travel.
The dragon behind is from the MM. Silver Dragon for 5E. But the rest of the image is entirely mine. this character is a PC i play in another game. he's a full support sorcerer cleric. Forgot to paint the nails on his feet. aside from that not much to say about him... except people dont know if he is serious when he says he has lived over 2000 years and that he is a silver dragon. when asked to show his power, he can only breath a small ray of frost. you know the cantrip of the same name. but recently his breath has become better. as per the spell of the same name that is level 2. in draconic on his crest... "Alive" and on his dress still in draconic... "One must remember the past to live the future !"
What can i say about Sion the Blanket of Isolation... Its a cloak that was stuck in the vault in hell for quite some times. when the players of my friday group, openned and defeated the monsters inside. the cloak finally could get out and snapped itself on a player. the cloak is cursed and alive at the same time. it plays pranks on other players, nothing serious though. it is free now, refuses to ever be in solitary confinement ever again. It also drinks the life force of creatures. otherwise it is lethargic and slow. because of its curse... the player is also getting slowed like the spell and sleepy if he doesn't drain the life of a creature at least once between rests. The cloak is made out of platinum and blue synapses like patterns. in the middle of the back, a word in runes. meaning Brain. The cloaks name is evident when one cast the mental prison spell that it can cast once per day.
Heres one of my master piece... Oomph the large mimic. a psychic mimic that is way too large to move on its own. it has domination powers through dreams of those it attunes to. it can attune to 5 people at once. dominating them during their sleeps and making them sleepwalkers under his control. It currently resides in a farmstead of one of my players in my friday group. he had just moved on and received this bed instead of the one he had called for. when he identified it and realised the bed had a name he wanted to deintegrate it. but the bed spoke and said, please dont. the mimic loves herbalism. because its old master was a chemist that made tons of potions. Oomph would try them all and became this huge mess of a creature. it also eventually gained psychic powers that works only weirdly by dreams states and telepathy. it transformed the bed room of its new master into a herbs paradise. in exchange it drinks only half the loot and produce random potions to its master. its also attuned to the butcher of the nearby city who comes and deliver live meat for the mimic to eat. and it is also attune to a level 1 wizard who thinks hell learn anything if he keeps working for the master. who knows the next 2 it will attune to... wheres the last attunement you ask ? well... its master loves to sleep on Oomph for unknown reasons !
That's about it for now, i am still drawing a few other characters and i am still enjoying my ride. still learning techniques and all and i think i'll soon be able to finally start my cartoon that i wanna do.
so tell me what you think and if there are things you know should be taken care of. tell me, i love learning more about drawing. i also encourage people showing us their craft ! after all, 2D is also a craft right ?!!

Interesting to note, pipe cleaners are great for doing these things, but hot glue has a hard time pooling like it usually does. so its a bit of a hassle to make hotglue stick correctly on those.

Nice job on the texture and paint job, it really works! PS unsolicited advice; Gloss the crap out of it!! Agreed anything that seems wet must be glossed with varnish and not just one , many layers of gloss. like 3.

Making a double tile is entirely possible. but it entirely depends on your tileing itself.
i made 2 types of tiles, not for Descent but for D&D and honestly thats pretty much the same thing. with scotty's tilescape it is easy and definitely made for double tiles, my own have three separates region. half the tiles are Dungeons and houses, the other half is dungeons and outdoors. i have lots of dungeon tiles cause im more that type of guy. but the rest is easily done. but that's tilescape, its already much like the tiles from descent to begin with. just a flat tile.
when it comes to 2,5D tiles its a bit trickier to do, you need to have a uniform border and a height that is the same on both sides. my attempt at it was way too much work and i was too lazy to go on, but it worked. as mentionned there is no problem with double edged tiles as long as they have the same height all together. on one side i had a dungeon with a wall made out of double corrugated cardboard. and on the other side the same thing but for a tavern floor made out of wood. It worked like a charm, i had a reversible tile. but there was two problems with it... the first, it was heavy because of the wood used on one side. the other problem was size, a few tiles like that and transport would become a problem.
as for designs of tiles... as i said, its entirely possible as long as the height of your tiles is the same on all tiles. otherwise you'll have disparity between tiles. another thing that enters into play... is the stuff that are on the descent tiles. like barrels and the likes which are drawn on the tiles themselves... here in these project, we dont have those in tiles. we separate the floor from the furnitures. thus we keep the tiles to a minimum. i think your problem is that you try to add the furnitures in-tile, which is a huge problem and thats why nobody has done it. not even in 3D printings.
so... TLDR... - keep tiles to a minimum, separate furnitures. - Tile heights must exactly all be the same.
if you do this, it should definitely work.

well... many people use the word upgrade to heroquest... but reality is... many a game who tries to be an upgrade only makes the game longer to set up and longer to play. heroquest is easy to play and set up. everybody talked about descent back then, and yet mine barely see play because abilities are too hard to grasp, board is long to set up. so after playing a while i dont think anything can actually replace heroquest. the game is pure genius and easy to grasp. heck its even easy to develop for it.
that said i never saw mordheim, so i will love to see what you design for it.

Hi, little story... in my world, when a player reaches level 15+ they start their path to god hood. god hood is separated in 3 tiers. the first being the gods of creations, the 15 who created the universe. no stats at all. nobody can ever get to their point. the intermediate gods, those who have an actual body and stats, those we can kill or take the place of. but they are very far from level 20. they are like level 30. and then, in my world, there is the immortals who leads the world of Vesthea. they aren't all born leaders, but those are all level 20 adventurers who got their hands on what they call "the stars" these stars give immesurable powers to their wielders, also granting them the ability to share that power and the ability to be immortal to time, decease or anything that doesn't involved decapitation. they can still be killed by anybody who just cut their heads, if they lose a limb, they lose it. but aside from that they are still immortals.
My players were trying to find a star they were forced to give away to save their friends before. a few in game months later they finally got their hands back on it. the one who had it, was an arch devil named Loxorhs, he was a prince of greed and loved to just collect rare things and put it away in vaults. when Loxorhs lost his throne to another greedy bastard, the heroes were asked to remove the star because of how warping it was to the nine hells.
they got down to the vault... the labyrhinthine walls of rock were almost all destroyed, the more they got in there, the more trees, vines, bushes and flowers there was. traps were destroyed. when they reached the small 10 foot wide corridor... that led to the vault... there was so many vines and flowers the passage was unpracticable. until one of the druids in the group came close, the vines and passage would retract and let him and his friend pass. because teh star when it was in the players possessions. it was carried by that druid. and the star powers had manifested through him. now this close to it, the star just wanted to be reunited with him. but the star had passed months in the vault in hell. while it created a natural environment for itself in that vault... it had been corrupted by the nine hell powers. and now it wanted a host in order to extend its power. It was corrupted !!!
as the players entered the now destroyed vault. a place of concrete and metal, nature seemed to have bloomed there still. vines blocked back the passage behind the heroes. and while they searched the room for treasures and traps... the druid walked to the star wanting to touch it. knowing full well that it would be absorbed in his person. the giant rose in the center of the room holding the star. openned slowly as he approached... but thanks to 2 of his party members who rolled above 20 in perception. they saw spikes looking teeths in the ground near their friend and barely had time to yell "watch it !" as the flower swallowed the star and and almost the druid as well... revealing this monstrosity of a plant !
It had been a while since i created something from scratch. its small, compared to my gold dragon that i made. but still. for soemthing i created in 3 hours. i think it was impressive enough for my players to just be in awe when they saw it. It was a decent fight that almost killed 2 of the players, forced the healer into doing survive myself first before healing others. but you have to know they were 3 players down out of 8 players. still, it was a cool fight and i didn't expect the plant to live that long. not considering they all were using blight on it.
for scale, this base is 3 inches by 3 inches. this is a huge creature.

Right click on a picture then click on "show the image" that will 99% of the time show you just the picture with nothing else, not even the webpage. that means the url you'll see at the top will be that of the image itself and not the page. mind you the 1% that might miss is webpages that have protection against copyrights infrigments.
Also occasionally available with the same right-click context menu is "Save image location", which copies the URL of the pic, allowing you to just paste it in the image coder icon
Unfortunately that opption often gives me odd results. like say when i use google images to find something. it often ends up giving me the url of the webpage instead. thats why i took the show image line instead.
