I have these small round cardboard tubes that I have no idea what I should do with. They're a really thick, sturdy cardboard. Someone suggested barrels but I feel like there's easier ways of doing those than trying with these tubes. I would love suggestions! (Yes that is a WiP graveyard in the background incase anyone is wondering.)

They're too small for towers... How about sewer tubes? They look like you might be able to just fit a 28mm Human figure inside. Otherwise, I would suggest wrapping them in Kris' column textures, and make them into stone columns. They are perfect for that. Cheers!

From the top of my hat: - a large segmented worm bursting out of the earth (only 3 segmetns above earth, connect with hotglue) - the body of a steampunk-ish tunnel boring machine

Columns, you'll get more miles out of them that way

Actually, erho, they could be! I like that idea. Unfortunately, I don't use Halflings/Kender (Hobbits) in my games. It would make me smile to see a round hearth, in a Hobbit house. Neat idea. Cheers!

It's going good to be set in a desert and almost Egyptian style theme, so maybe I can make a sand worm. 😁

When you consider making a giant worm, you should do a forum search for 'giant purple worm' or 'GWP'. DM Scottty initiated this with his tutorial 5 years ago ( others followed), and making your own GWP has become something of a rite of passage among this crafting community. ...at least I'd like to think so. You'll find my GWP posting in the ' Tentacles' posting of my (long neglected) Index Thread.
The general shape of both worms is probably the same, just the a different pallette to paint the beast.
