I am wondering if you have ever tried crafting a medieval~ish observatory? I am making one to be seen from the outside, (for the pc's to find in an overgrown jungle setting) ...and then I need to make an interior scene, most likely I am going to have to make them seperately. I have gotten in over my head with this idea, but I'm married to it now and stuck in creator's block. Any ideas would be much appreciated! I would love to see you craft anything along this line...

annaleigh , welcome aboard! What tech level do you want for your medieval observatory? Historically, they did not have telescopes. They had astrolabes and sextants possibly, but nothing really hi-tech. Optics pretty much did not exist. However, since this is D&D, Eyes of the Eagle, are a very real possibility. They could be represented as a pair of spectacles, but they would be uber-small, in 28mm scale. A possibility would be a straight piece of wood, on a stand, allowing it to angle up/down, for sighting star angles in the sky. Look up medieval astronomy instruments, for ideas. Cheers!

telescopes are a bit post-medieval, but eyeglass lenses are not. So just move the idea to combine different optical lenses back a bit.
There's a scratch-built observatory at: dmscraft.proboards.com/thread/3285/building-frostgrave-battle-board-green?page=10
Wilmanric showed an observatory on one of his threads on this forum, but his dome was a 3-D print. He posted his file on Thingiverse for free downloading at: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1496315
There's also one the builder called an astrologarium at: theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=413367 the astrologarium/observatory-like structure looks like a commercial item or a 3-D print, though.
If you look up "Observatory" on Wikipedia they have links to images of some of the earliest surviving astronomical viewing points, although some aren't exactly what we think of as observatories

Curiosity led me further into the Internet. Apparently the structure used for the "astrolgarium" IS a commercial item. It's the "Numinous Occulum" by Games Workshop. And is as pricey as it is fabulous.

Looks quite a lot like the 7th century Korean star-gazing tower, Draklith!

That's GW for you! Only reason I have a Necron army at all is that I found a great deal on eBay!
I know their stuff is really great looking, but I don't really care for the price either!
Oh and I have a problem with how often they update the rules of their games!

Skunkape, I think they are just trying to follow Apple's SOP, a new OS every year!
Right as I finally get into WHFB, they switch the fiction and release Fantasy Space Marine Knight Battles

Around 15 years ago, they had great Lizardmen figures. I bought an older, out of vogue, set off of e-Bay for a reasonable price. Great figures, those. After that, they went deep into Cartoon Land, and I lost all interest: 500-pound swords, 300-pound axes, skulls on everything, everywhere; shoulder pad armor the size of the figure's head; etc. Their older figures are superb, however. Too bad.
Some of it is good, though, as it introduced many young people to fantasy gaming, and 5e D&D came along to pique their interest. There is a silver lining to the dark GW cloud (all in my opinion, only). Cheers!

I also purchased a box of Lizardmen figures, sgtslag. Don't remember whether I got them from eBay or my local gaming store.
