Yaaar Matey, shiver those timbers, poop the mop deck, and mizzen the main mast! Chips Ahoy! Ok I'm done! Ive started a campaign deep in a mountain, somehow my heroes have made their way to the coast and sailed south, convinced thats the next clue because I role played up an inn keeper and just made stuff up about lands to the south. Anyway aside from the boats in the other thread Ive been making other nautical nonsense instead of chores and IRL stuff. I hope you enjoy as I add to the collection what I anticipate they will run into. Ship cannon! Marker cap, xps foam and sculpy wheels. Cannon further along, and some sculpy sharks! Dock, Popsicle sticks, 1/4" dowels and string. A shot of all the boats together Heres the old boats, the red one in the back has broken masthead, but the brown on here is the main BBEG's ship, desploying the row boats to board the adventurer's craft. Thank you!!!!

Great looking crafts, erho! You are inspiring me to start working on some high seas adventures. It looks really fun. I just love the rough-cut planks on the dock. Great detail.

Much obliged Bob! I'm very inspired by everyone's work here, thanks for taking the time! Finished the cannon, now I need to find some clever stats or uses for it. Sculpy wheels and skull motifs. I usually crank out a bunch of these skulls when I have extras sculpy at the end of a project. The barrel is a pen cap, body is xps foam. The chain rings on the side are thinly sliced tubing that comes with fine tip brushes. Trash to treasure! Everything in this pic is needed for next game, mostly new stuff. I already have cliffs and shorelines, camp accessories, etc. Now its on to the minis, barrels, and sharks! Thank you!

If you're playing 5e, I believe there are rules for cannon in the DMG.
I've been working on an expansion of the black powder weapons for it though they're nowhere near done.

I saw those, but I was hoping for something like lightening where it runs through multiple targets in a line, or even a scatter dice roll, etc.

Personally, the best way to handle things for a cannons and mortars would be to have it target a location rather than normal targeting rolls. Ball ammunition would be an aoe template (3" diameter would probably be good) with additional damage effects to structures and similar, and if you want to make things interesting in other ways, make a bunch of craters the size of the template that might add cover against normal ranged weapons. Add in evasion type things for people being shot at by it. Grapeshot would be a larger template (5" diameter would work), no extra structure damage or crater left, but harder for people to evade it. Chainshot would use the 3" template, no crater and have some added effects against ships and the like since it was heavily used to target masts and similar. Mortars are indirect fire and could ignore walls and might have even larger templates, but would have to deal with scatter. Of course, with black powder you start getting the fun things that can pop up like rocket arrows (Hwacha would be interesting to have pop up for a fight or two), grenado, and smoke pots.

Right on!
I've got an old copy of StormWrack sea campaign sourcebook from 3.5 somewhere at another house, I seem to remember there being info like this in it.

Right on! I've got an old copy of StormWrack sea campaign sourcebook from 3.5 somewhere at another house, I seem to remember there being info like this in it. StormWrack didn't have black powder stuff in it, there were a few siege weapons, but it was still without those rules. For blackpowder, you needed to go either third party or, I think, the D20 Past book. There were some rather good large vehicle rules in it, though that was largely a reprint from the Arms & Equipment Guide.

Found this, 3rd party in Pathfinder 3.5 context. Adamant seige guns This left me underwhelmed. ---- "Ship's Cannon"
Cost: 2000 gp Damage: 4d8 Range Increment: 200 ft. Typical Crew 5
A ship’s cannon is a smaller version of a cannon fixed into position, usually on a sailing ship. It requires only 2 full-round actions to clean and load, but still requires 2 full-round actions to prepare the ammunition.
Being fixed in place with limited mobility makes this cannon harder to fire, so it is fired with a -6 penalty to hit.
A single cannon load costs 10 gp.
A ship’s cannon takes up a space 5 feet across. ----
So, -6 to hit, essentially fire with disadvantage maybe for use in 5e?

You may want to simply make it a dual proficiency weapon, meaning you need both Firearms/Black Powder Weapons and the Siege Weapons proficiency.
And a crew of 5 is a massive number, most cannon would have a crew of 2-3 depending upon a few things.
Person 1 clears the gun Person 2 loads the powder Person 3 drops the ammo in Person 1 rams it down (On a ship) the weapon is pushed back into position They aim the thing as directed Person 3 fires (Recoil pushes the weapon on its carriage back to go back to loading position on a ship) Goes back to step 1

I'm throwing it at them via the business end of the cannon first.
If they happen to overtake the larger ship with the cannon, then they may get a chance to utilize it.

Not much of an update today, but I finished these sharks and packed them up with the rest of coastal stuff in anticipation of next Friday’s game night! Couldn't decide on colors, and wasnt really inspired because I'm not sure if I'll get to use them. Sauhuagin encounter filler, hopefully they end up in the water so I can! Dark blue and lime green drybrush on the edges, and it seems to work good enough for me! Thank you!

If you want an easier way to make "sharks" for the table, use some of the harder, clear plastic. Either the stuff from clam shell packs of going with the report covers that Scotty has used in a few videos.
On the underside, use a dark color (Black, blue, or greys) and give the general outline of the shark as viewed from above. Let it dry completely and then take a mid blue and go over it before sealing it (You really want to do so with this or you will regret it later on).
Then take some scraps of foamcore or foamboard and cut the classic fin and possibly the tail fin if you want it. Paint it up in the shark grey, and glue them in place on the unpainted side of the clear plastic and use hot glue to make the ripples and similar for it before hitting it with a very light white on it to exaggerate the ripples/waves. They work rather well.

Friday is game night! Last minute project to make a water battle mat with canvas and latex caulk, so far its an amazing process and result! Basically this is a test piece, about 3 1/2' x 3 3/4' taped to this perf board I had lying around. It helped dry it faster than other wise in my cold crammed garage! I'm sure youve all seen the process here and on youtube, but Ive never seen one for water. I'll get better pics later but its highly textured in sweeping lines in uniform direction as waves tend to do. Canvas, 2 tubes of white Latex caulk($1.50 walmart) and green and blue paint. Once it was dry, it was a matte finish. It didnt look wet in any sense of the word, and so not having planned this out I stood there wondering what to use for gloss that would still be flexible. Modpodge? No way. I have several projects that I used MP on and they have all remained sticky, and love to fuse with tissue and foam(you know, everything I use to packs stuff up for travel and storage) I had a pail of Polyurethane gloss, not labelled as flexible I just went with it! After 2 days of sitting there taped up, I cut it out and was amazed at how flexible and heavy it is! I'll get pics later today of the bendyness and glossyness

Very nice. I'm excited to see how it turns out. I've been considering a water board with a sheet of foam board tacked to 1/8th inch plywood, then a little light texturing with foil, some blue and green paint, and then a thick stippling of mod podge. Seen some train guys use it for water effects. Not sure if it's going to work. Still in the research phase.

I saw that too in Luke APS and Terrain Tutor using MP for ripples.
I regret not planning it out before hand, Id like to have highlighted the water a little.

While to late for this one, one of the easiest ways to do a water board is to go for the plastic/acryllic light covers at the larger hardware stores. A lot of them have rippled patterns in them and if you do a reverse paint job (Start with light/bright colors and work darker over it) on the underside, you get a lot of depth out of it.
Then you can take a very light drybrush of a metallic or pearlescent white over the top.
If you want more strength to it, either attach it to a board or stick it in a picture frame...

Here is the textile itself! I ran some pva on the sides to help prevent fray otherwise its completed! Very bendy, rolls up easy. Texture! My gloss coat brush had some black paint dust you see speckled in the foreground. Oops! Looks great anyway! Its been nearly 2 months since we played D&D, so this friday will likely be a blow out session!
