Hey crafters, The other night during a D&D session, a few of the players had backed away a good distance from combat. It wasn't until too late that we all realized they had backed out of range of the torch-bearer and were completely in the dark. To keep this from happening again, I made this little torch-bearer indicator, which slides under the appropriate miniature and makes it perfectly obvious who the party's light source is. For the torch I used DM Scotty's q-tip method ( link), and for the base I cut out an appropriately-sized circle from a piece of blister-pack plastic, with a little tab on which to glue the torch. At first I couldn't figure out how I was going to mount the mini in a non-permanent way that was still sufficiently secure, but then hit upon the simple idea of using a piece of double-sided scotch tape, which works perfectly. Best regards, DM Lich

I would suggest that you add a weight to the center of the base section. It would add a bit to keep them from getting knocked around during setup.
You might also consider using the same torch technique and make a few that are for dropped torches, in a dry area, using them as tossed down or dropped light sources is something that would be used...if nothing else for those who have seen movies like Indiana Jones where it's used a few times to light areas.

Simple, clean, effective. Love it. Well executed, as well. Thanks, sotf, for the additional ideas. Great stuff! Cheers!

All good ideas! I'll need to use the same for my game, though my players tend not to back out of torch light like yours did. Mostly because I ask them who's carrying the torch, but having an indicator to go with the mini is a good idea.

Just as an idea that hit me about a way to do this.
Rather than the clear underbase, what about going to the keyring isle and get the 1" rings and glue it to the side of the ring...or even get a one inch pole piece and wrapping a heavy wire around it in a figure 8 of the torch and the piece of wood in order to just have it around the base and with the other loop being around the torch and glued in place there while the figure can be used easily.
