Hello crafters, New to the forum (still need to write up my intro) and wanted to share my first-ever craft. I'm currently DMing Curse of Strahd and decided the mimic in the basement of the Death House would be a good opportunity to get creative. The door was made using DMG's method ( link) while the monster part was made by cannibalizing two minis: a giant frog for the mouth and a wight for the arms. I glued them on with 5-minute epoxy and then kept applying epoxy to get a smooth transition with the door and make it look like the arms and mouth were "stretching" out from the door. Best regards, DM Lich p.s. - It was only after I read the description a little more closely that I realized mimics have "pseudopods" and not arms, but by then it was too late. It still went over pretty well at the gaming table.

Whether arms or pseudopods, this dor is just great. Make another, regular door without hint of a monster and swap the mimic-door out when the party opens the door. Instant surprise! What's more, since the right hand seems to look almost like making a 'thumbs up' gesture and the mouth has an almost-smile, you could use the mimic as potential ally, IF (and that's a big 'if', mind you) the players can stop themself from hacking it to bits. However the encounter goes, please share a report with us. And welcome on board!

OUTSTANDING! That not only is a WONDERFULLY crafted & HIGHLY imaginative creation, it is also a SPLENDID introduction. WELCOME ABOARD! I hope your stay will be a LONG & MERRY affair. Having arms rather than mere pseudopods indicates that this is a superior form of Mimic. You could give the Beasty some extra oomph for that. It is a unique piece. VERY WELL DONE!

deafnala is right, superbly done! I agree, the pseudopod is a non-issue. That would be a real shocker on the tabletop. Love the idea, and the execution is brilliant. Makes my black-as-coal, DM's heart, laugh out loud... Mwah-ha-hahhh! I like that. I really like that. Welcome aboard! Cheers!

I'll chime in too, this is a very nice piece, I think you've done a great job with the implementation and look of it. Very inspiring and innovative.

A very nice & interesting craft. The transition between the monster parts & it's door parts is very well done.
Don't worry about the arms, I am sure I have seen an official Wizards of the Coast art depicting the mimic with arms.
Look forward to more of your creations!
