Hey everyone, I'm Ace and I am new to D&D. I started by playing with a friend on Fantasy Grounds and then I bought the D&D starter set. I learned of this forum from Wyloch and DMGInfo. Very good YouTubers!!! I'm excited to learn techniques and meet friends to talk bout our adventures and loot or whatever.

Welcome.
My advice, if you're new to D&D: do not craft anything for your first session. Play pure theater of the mind. Keep it simple.

Welcome! If you find that your players have trouble visualizing what's going on during combat, you can use bottle caps, board game pieces, pennies, etc. for the PCs and opponents. No need to use miniatures or terrain until you decide if you like the game enough to invest more time and at least a little money in it. But if you really like crafting and want to get started, scatter terrain that can be placed on any base is good to start with. Looking forward to seeing your work if you do decide to craft! Lost Mine of Phandelver - the adventure module in the Starter Set - is a great starter campaign. Be warned, though, that the goblins can be tough for Level 1 characters. There's a lot of advice on the internet about running the adventure if you want a little help. Also, if you want to expand beyond LMoP without spending more yet, the basic rules for D&D 5e for the DM and for players are available as free pdfs at dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

Paper miniatures can go a long way as well, check out wargame vault, cardboard warriors just to name a few, lots of free ones to be found

Welcome!
I also have a Fantasy Grounds group that I am running - but at the table it is really a better experience. But if the distance is too high to meet up - FG is the next best thing.
Welcome in the forums.
