Just wanted to share some common thrift store games I've found that you can use for basing miniatures. The first is the game Othello. I see this game a lot in thrift shops and at yard sales. Usually for $1.00 USD or less. Othello uses 1 inch (25mm) round two tone chips for its pieces. One side of the chip is black the other side is white. The chip is made of 2 pieces stuck together. You can separate the chips into 2 pieces with a light tap to its seam with a hammer and flathead screwdriver. This gives you 2 bases the exact size and thickness of the official D&D/Pathfinder minis bases. The set of Othello I got cost me $0.50 USD and had 65 chips in it. After 10 mins with a hammer and screwdriver I had 130 1 inch bases ready to go. Pictured from left to right: Official D&D Human Fighter mini, non split Othello Chip, Split Othello Chip white inside, Split Othello Chip black inside, Split Othello Chip White Outside, Split Othello chip black outside. The second recommendation is Poker chip sets. Thrift stores are loaded with poker sets usually with 250-1000 chips a set. You want to look for the Texas Hold 'Em poker sets that use plastic imitations of clay casino chips. These chips are 1 1/2 inches (38mm) round and work great for most large sized miniatures. Pictured from left to right: Reaper miniatures Large Stone Golem, Poker for Dummies brand Poker Chip, D&D Human Fighter miniature, D&D Large Troll miniature. As you can see the Large Reaper Stone Golem fits on the poker chip with room to spare. If you've found any games or other cheap sources of miniature bases please share.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Can you elaborate on your "hammer and screwdriver" separation technique for the Othello pieces? I'm having a heck of a time trying to separate these things. Thanks,
