Love the copper version, looks great!
And concerning the cork pieces: Try making some of them a bit larger than the others to give it a more irregular 'burst through the ground' effect.

tauster - Thanks! They're all done now (I only made four of them), but I understand what you mean! I tried that with the first one, but the base is so small that it's difficult to get much variation in size. If I cut them too big, the bottom corners would stick out past the edge of the base, and I wasn't comfortable trying to cut really small slivers... I was scared of cutting my fingers if the blade slipped. If I ever do something like this again, with a larger base to work with or something that's built right into a terrain piece, I'd definitely try for more variety in size, shape, length, and maybe even angle some of the pieces differently to make it look really broken and ragged.

the paint job and the bases really set these apart! Very cool.

Finally done! I'm not 100% happy with the rocks, but overall I'm fairly satisfied with how they turned out. And it was a lot of fun!

guillaume - Thanks. I feel there's a bit too much grey on them. At a later date I may try to dry-brush some black to tone it down.

a dark grey lavish would do the trick (a real lavish : paint+medium not just watered down paint) a dry brush will do no good (you will end up with the edge black and the center gray that will gave it an unfinish/messy look)

One other suggestion beyond Scotty's stuff, if you start with a pipe cleaner or just a piece of wire (even an unfolded paperclip) for a core, you can get more interesting positions and a more sturdy result

Those look like they'd mess up a party of new adventurers pretty quickly. Nicely done.

guillaume - Ah, good point! I'll definitely try that method instead. Thanks! sotf - Thanks for the tip! The one thing that I did find a bit frustrating with this method was the difficulty in shaping them, and trying to keep them from un-spiraling while doing that. Wire will make it so much easier! ivenbach - Haha! Thanks.

"I did find a bit frustrating with this method was the difficulty in shaping them" so forget the paperclip: it's too stiff, use "silver plated cooper wire for beads" it's what i use and allow great control of the shape you make 0,8mm would do the trick

The bead wire tends to not keep its shape that well...

I had started to make tentacles a while ago and found mine stuffed in a box. I started to turn my first try at tentacles into these. They look very different structurally, but I have not painted them yet. Will paint when it warms up. (so I can spray em outside.) Let's see how they turn out. Mine are just TP and glue.

guillaume, sotf - Thanks for the wire info. I have some pipe cleaners (bought them for DIY crystal growing), so I'll be good to go when I want to make more vines-like things. voodoo - Good luck with your tentacles! I look forward to seeing them.

These really are SPLENDIDLY crafted, painted, & WONDERFULLY imaginative creations. They would go well with my Mushrooms & Trees; ERGO I will have to give them a try...thanks for the idea. VERY WELL DONE!

animator1138 - Here's a direct link to the tiles used in that vid: RPG Floor Tiles 01. And the main page for all my mapping freebies (with categories on the left): RPG Map Freebies. It's been a long time since I've made any maps (or mapping freebies), but hopefully I'll have time to get back into it again soon. deafnala - Thank you so much! I hope yours turn out well!
