I've been so shit at painting/crafting the past months, but maybe this will be something that'll push me to actually finish a few. Got a boatload of minis to paint, so...

I actually started painting mini's this weekend. If felt good to be painting again -- hope it lasts... I, too, have a ton of mini's to get painted. I do Works-in-Process, style of painting: paint what you want, when you want, and eventually, things will get finished. It does require some discipline, as I have many, many figures, in various stages of completion. I currently have bunches of figures near completion -- they just need a little push to get them ready for The Dip, then they will be table-ready. Worked on some Giant Skeletons which just need some detail work painted, and a little bit of The Dip afterwards, as they have already had it over all -- it helps to push me to get them to an inspiring level of near completion. Since I paint large groups, assembly-line-style, when I finish any group of mini's, I will finish upwards of 10 mini's. That is a very good feeling, but it also means that it takes longer to finish any individual mini, as they are done in large batches, and I have to wait until I finish the whole batch, to get the satisfaction of completion... The light has been switched back on, at the end of the tunnel, so hope is once again springing from the ground.
I have had a mass battles game in the back of my mind for over 15 years. Some of the mini's which are near completion, are necessary to play this battle out. This is highly motivating to get them done. Unfortunately, I have a convention game I need to playtest above all else, as I plan to run it 7 January 2017... Still, I am pushing ahead on mini's projects which won't see light of day until sometime after 7 January, just because I look forward to the long-term goals being achieved. The convention game is something I've been working on putting together since the late 90's, as a 'wish' project -- I wish it would all come together so it could be played, and it is coming to fruition. Finally. So, too, with the other projects... Chip, chip, chippin' away at 'em. Cheers!

Howdy, Here is my entry. Painted in one evening. Fantastic! That is one bad beholder. It would make a good entry for November Paint contest(you don't want to compete with yourself for the October) But you jumped the gun bro... NaMiPaMo starts in November, that's tomorrow! Looking forward to what you come up with... Kev!

That is so nice. You paint so well. Did you craft the beholder yourself?

I did. It was my first attempt at a "full" sculpt. I had used greenstuff to modify minis before, added clothing etc, but never complete. It was fun, and also a pretty good learning experience.

Howdy,
I have decided a way to create a watermark for yourself to inspire greater efforts for NaMiPaMo 2017...
For 2016 give yourself 100 points if you start and complete a mini in one day(max one per day). Give yourself 10 points if you finish a previously started mini(max one per day). Finally, Give yourself 1 point if you make progress on a mini(max one per day).
To be clear, You will score 1,10, or 100 points each day. (daily points don't stack)
I think I will do really well to start and complete a mini each Saturday and Sunday for 800, plus I should be able to finish maybe 2 per week call it 80, leaving 14 days of progress for a total of 894
Wish me luck, Kev!

Can I start with sculpey and bake it .. and then add onto it with Greenstuff, or other type of dry cure (non-bake) clay?

I believe that is what a lot of people do. In all honesty, I will be doing that next time. Even though I had the large barrel underneath, I still went through a lot of green stuff for a monster I hope my DM never uses. Really nice crystals btw. I'm beginning to practice painting glossy surfaces. You probably can't see it, but the beholder's central eye was done that way....Then I put gloss coat on it lol.

That beholder is insanely awesome. Can't recollect one I've seen better Still puzzled how yo painted that one guy's skirt red/black like that. Seems hard.

Looks like drwillsdc highlighted the black skirt with red instead of using a gray highlighting

Here's today's entry. A long loaf of bread (the one on the right). Sculpted it about 1/2 hour ago and baked it. Painted with Americana Honey Brown and grooves were painted Americana Linen.. then dry brush Honey Brown back into the grooves, until the right color.

Your talking about my 2011 version of Conan. I base coated in a dark red and though it doesn't show well in the pics, I actually used citadel green wash. Been experimenting with different colors for washes and shadows. Some have worked out well. Others....not so much. I was trying to match the Jason Momoa(sp) Conan for that one. I have since switched to an Arnie Conan. Both were fun to modify and paint.

The orcs are cool, but I really like the bread. Its little details like that that bring a dungeon to life. I love that kind of stuff. Now, I must make plates and loaves of bread and sacks of apples.......Darn you DMs Craft boards!!!!
