Hey guys, thought I would share the Altar puzzle I used in my recent game. Its a very easy puzzle to solve. In the room there are 3 altars and a locked door with an inscription on it that reads:
To find your way home, 3 keys you must own. To be put on the Altars, in an order unknown... One key is red, the other its tone, And the last one to be, of your own flesh & bone…
I used a Red and Purple key.
The players must find 2 keys (one red, one purple) hidden in the dungeon and the 3rd key is themselves. They must place the keys on the altar. The order is to be determined ahead of time by the DM, but the players must guess the correct order. If they get the order wrong, enemies spawn in front of the corresponding altars that the wrong key was placed on. If a key was placed correctly then no enemies spawn. Once they have the correct order the door becomes unlocked.
My group figured it out after two tries. Although there was some discussion an whether or not they should attack each other and bleed on the altar! I would have died laughing if they would have went through with that!

Well obviously that wouldn't have worked...they need flesh and bone, not blood...

...would they have been able to lug one of the bodies onto the altar to fool it? It says "your own flesh and bone," But unless there is sentience in the trap, I am not sure how it could know the difference.

Very interesting thought! yea I guess the 'door' is the determiner of who's flesh and bone it needs to be... but how it knows is something thats not really told ...glad I posted this, good to get everyone's perspective!
