Made of popsicle sticks and some medium weight chipboard. What do you think? I didn't see a tutorial for making one, so I had to figure out all the dimensions myself. Stool top is 3/4" wide. Stool legs are 3/8" long. The width of each are the width of a popsicle stick. Desk top is 1" wide and the width of two popsicle sticks deep. The legs of the desk are 5/8" long -- each of the 4 is the width of a popsicle stick. The chipboard part is like just under 7/8" wide. I still need to craft the book pedestal, but thinking maybe it isn't needed.. that players would get the idea? or no? I used the following photo as inspiration:

I don't think the book pedestal is worth the effort (though it does look sweet in the inspiration photo!). I think players would get the idea. Especially with a partially filled in scroll or book on the desk--I don't think anyone is going to go, "Hey! Where's the scroll that's being copied from?!" Or perhaps that is just a browsing station and the copying room is "inaccessible".

That looks good. I don't think I would bother with the book holder. The players will get the idea. Here is a double scribe desk that Jason made a few years back, I might offer some inspiration link.

Painted it and updated the initial posting to this thread with this image. Just need those candlesticks.

Candlesticks??? NO NO! Not in a library or scriptorium. Magic globe lamps like those Curufin linked to are the way to go. Well, maybe candles if all of your "books" are engraved on stone slabs or clay tablets. That's a nice reading desk you made. If you ever want variations, the author of this site has tracked down some cool ones: medievalbooks.nl/2014/10/10/medieval-desktops/

Brilliant, jennifer ! I think the book stand would really add to the whole, completing it as a "copy stand", otherwise, it looks like a reading desk, only. I missed the alternative posted -- also brilliant. Both have their places. Cheers!

Can't wait to see the finished desk! I think it looks great as is, but if you are going to add the extras wow!

Very nice work. I agree that the book pedestal would help finish it off . You may also want to add an ink well and quill if you want to push it to the next level.

I thought about the quill.. dont' know how i'd make one .. maybe with paper for the feather. I think an ever expanding group of gnome cultists raided the underground library and stole all the book pedestals, for use as podiums in their new temples -- or something. These cultist gnomes are all covered in tattoos, so I think they stole all the ink as well -- no pun intended.

do you know anyone who has canaries? or maybe parakeets? They might shed a feather that would work. a secondary wing feather from a canary would probably be OK. I think the primaries are too big.

Twist tie, cut to shape with a bead as the ink well
