I haven't looked yet but I am sure someone must have a model out there for miniature bases. My order of frostgrave minis (Soldiers and Undead) should be here today and I will have get them together and painted. Then I have a bunch of Reaper minis to do. I was about to start buying bases for all of them but locally they are quite expensive. The local game store has them for something like $12 for 10 Reaper bases.
I gotta figure they gotta be pennies printed and fairly quick due to their very low profile.

The same guy has mini bases... in fact, many of the mini have bases that print in the same file. I have been deleting them because they net out to be 20-40% of the total plastic and time depending of the model. Even with the low profile, they have infill. I have tons of 1/8" black sheet plastic, so I figure I can save print time and print plastic if I make them myself. I could use washers too, I suppose.

Wow, this is absolutely amazing! One question though Curufin, I clicked the link to the printer you bought and it says it's going for $600, not $300. Am I missing something here? Either way, that thing is incredible.

Either way, that thing is incredible. Whoa! The 50% sale must be over. There was no end date stated. Meph must have tipped the scale. I did see a blurb about Monoprice offering a $199 printer in late Feb or March. I don't know any more details than that though... EDIT: Looking at the dates of the reviews of the printer, it has been 50% off a few times.... we'll just need to keep watching for when it is again.

Excellent. I may have to keep a keen eye on this. Hmm, tax money well spent...? Haha

I am guessing that the sale was until 2/1. I am glad I pulled the trigger yesterday.

I have a feeling I am going to be busy for a while printing my own stuff. I am more interested in terrain pieces than miniatures for myself. I love the details in most of the minis I buy that a 3D printer just can't replicate yet. I will gladly print what I don't have if I need it for a session but for the most part I will probably just buy what I need. Dungeon tiles on the other hand are pretty cost effective to print. Will take time but slow and steady wins the race

A couple more minis: A Blue Slaad and a Naslfeshnee demon. A Displacer Beast and a Fire Giant (I haven't printed his sword yet) Meph, your tile shipped. It will be interesting to see what gets to your house first.

I am worried about copy right issues and all the stuff that goes with it. But.....soooooo many uses! The world changes so fast and I guess keeping up with the Joneses just got priceier! (300 bucks worth)

Not free but here is another source for printable materials. So when you bought your printer, what else did you buy with it? www.printablescenery.com/I literally bought nothing else. The printer came with everything, including a kg of plastic. I had to download some free software, but I was printing the test cube within an hour of pick up of box off my front porch. Did I mention it was free shipping? I should probably say that this is in no way a replacement for crafting. I am not hanging up my crafting hat in any way, shape, or form. It's more like I've hired an assistant. I can tell it what to work on, while I'm working on something more important. And, of course, we are only talking about crafting here... But the real thing that tipped the scale for me buying it wasn't the million of other applications I can apply 3D printing to.... It's the 50 million I have even thought of yet. You mean there is a use for something that does not involve crafting? Hmmmmnnnnn.......and here I was wasting time looking into smelting all those little metal bits to make something cool and you manage to buy this tidy little machine. AWESOME!

Congrats all of you who got this bargain offer! I have '3D printer' on my wishlist ever since that topic became hot (I'd say 2-3 ears ago), but it was too expensive for a hobby thing. It is still quite a lot of money just for the fun (but what fun it brings!), so I'll probably wait for a few months especially with the construction of the new house still going on. But after we moved and settled in... When curufin wrote about the printing times (several hours for some of the stuff), my thought was something along the lines of ' while I might not be able to do that stuff as detailed as a printer, I'm certainly faster!' I mean, one 2x2 floor piece in 90 minutes? Come on! But when I took a second look at those monster pics, it hit me: Heads!I can come up with all kinds of weirdly shaped monsters: the weirder, the better - because when you don't have to replicate a known anatomy like a humanoid, you can go wild and it will still lok good. But I'm bad at sculpting heads. Very bad. So having to chose heads from all kinds of monsters and even changing their size would totally solve that problem, so much that just printing giant heads for giant monsters would be a game changer for me crafting monsters. I guess I'll have to explain yet another hoby investment to my wife in the near future... *sigh* [afterthought] ...and that all isn't even taking into consideration what will happen with 3D printing when we get better and affordable 3D scanners!

It was picked up in Ohio last night and scheduled for delivery at my house here in NY tomorrow =)

curufin I'll be keeping an eye on that printer, but please post if you happen to see it on sale again. I guess my negotiating skills with my wife weren't fast enough. Got the OK on Sunday and planned to buy on Monday, but TOO LATE. PS: that displacer beast is worth the price of admission. Have you seen what they cost in the secondary market? Ack!

Congrats wilmanric! Cant wait to see the stuff all of you print. my trigger fingers are itching, but at the moment I'm spending quite a lot on power tools (drills, jigsaw, grinder, hopefully a better bench saw, etc), which cuts into the budget for stuff like 3D printers. Also, I have to actually make stuff with al those tools to justify buying them in the first place. which cuts into the time budget...

It's really amazing the files you can get for free from places like thingiverse for 3D printing. Then when you start adding in the files you can purchase, it's just amazing what you can get. One of the things I like about the concept of 3D printing is that you can usually get items that are not normally available for a particular scale. For instance, there few modern cars available for 28 mm figures that aren't super expensive! Sure companies are making some scale vehicles but they are usually cast in resin, which is hard to work with, can be pretty horrible from a detail perspective and is very expensive!
Yeah, you can find images that you can scale to the proper size and then print out, but a flat image of a Mustang doesn't have the same feeling on the table that a scale Mustang does with your figure standing beside it!

curufin, is it easy to scale a monster up from the original file? Let's say I like the head of a (human-sized) ork, but want that head printed five times larger - does it take much tweaking or is it just a few clicks and buttons to make those changes?
