Those prints look really good, and the times you said are not that long at all. I use my local library that has makerbot replicator 2's and it usually takes me a while to print even simple things out with far less resolution. May have to look into this printer myself.

Not free but here is another source for printable materials. So when you bought your printer, what else did you buy with it? www.printablescenery.com/

I wonder how those printers hold up? Can you do hundreds (or even thousands) of runs before breaking? Really thinking about getting one. I haven't read anyone saying it stopped working after a certain amount of time/use. My guess would be that it wall handle some serious printing for quite some time. If you run it at accelerated speeds it does shake the machine pretty good, so I slowed mine down. But honestly, if I get one year of solid printing out of it, it will have been worth it many times over. My first inkjet printer cost more than $300.

The printer came with everything, including a kg of plastic. I had to download some free software, but I was printing the test cube within an hour of pick up of box off my front porch. Did I mention it was free shipping? I should probably say that this is in no way a replacement for crafting. I am not hanging up my crafting hat in any way, shape, or form. It's more like I've hired an assistant. I can tell it what to work on, while I'm working on something more important. And, of course, we are only talking about crafting here... But the real thing that tipped the scale for me buying it wasn't the million of other applications I can apply 3D printing to.... It's the 50 million I have even thought of yet.

I have spent more than that on some rotted out arcade cabinet needing restoration. I will be picking one up shortly.

@curufn My wife is already asking what else I plan to print with it so she's on board. I might pull the trigger today. What else do I need to order immediately with it?

@curufn My wife is already asking what else I plan to print with it so she's on board. I might pull the trigger today. What else do I need to order immediately with it? Ha! My gf found out I got one and she spent all day yesterday looking at things on Thingiverse. We (I) had print some ducks for her. She sat in front of the printer and nearly watch it print for the whole cycle. She's hooked. Have your wife explore Thingiverse. No, wait...bad idea. If you do, you will never get any time to print your own stuff. You dont need to order anything else. You will need some blue or green painters tape though, to print on. DO NOT PRINT ON THE DIRECTLY ON THE PLATEN (or even on the 3M sticker that goes over it) If you do, you will never get the print off of the plate. I have a bad x-acto knife stab wound to prove it.

how much printing do you think the kg of plastic that came with it will get you? Is it worth ordering more right away or should I wait?

If you have amazon prime, I wouldn't worry about buying another roll yet. Theoretically, I've used 10% of my plastic so far, and there is a umber hulk and a hook horror you haven't seen yet. I would print a little bit first, see how you like it, because you can get every color of the rainbow in plastic, including clear. I feel like black would be a good printing color....
It comes with a 1000g of plastic. Your test floor piece used 15g.

Ha! I've been called worse! Just about the time you get your test tile, you will already be printing them! Take some time to read through all the reviews of the printer on Monoprice. There is some good advice in there for building and printing.

I will do, thanks. We should see about getting a sticky thread with 3d printing resources. Judging by this thread there will be others soon.

Here are some new prints: A Incredible Umber Hulk and a Hook Horror. The Umber Hulk head came out beautifully, then I dropped it on the floor and broke off both antenna.... figures (no pun intended). I encountered my first problem printing. For some reason the printer didn't print the top of the Hezrou's head. It printed 8 of the total 9 grams of the miniature. This might be fine if your fighter parades around with a sword of sharpness, but I'd rather have the whole thing. I was able to just print the very top of the head as to not waste any plastic. I super glued it on. Then I used a soldering iron to blend the two pieces together. One do that in a well ventilated area....like outside! Fixed Hezrou:

Once I get my house built and have moved in, I will buy a 3D printer. Not sure which one, but I'm figuring in the $1K range, so I'm hoping it's a good one.
