Picked up a few bits at the party supplies store, thought this small picture frame would make a great entrance to a mortuary
the pillars were from the baking section (same store) Party City
Acquired shadow box for $20 because of scratches on the front frame, regular price was $79 at AC Moore
So with some wood bits and a couple of ideas I began the layout
the little wooden bridge I also had bought at AC Moore awhile ago when it was on sale, it was in the doll house section for like $2
Starting the mortuary build here, flat black spray paint base, then I hot glued the cardboard roof panels to the picture frame, smaller pieces of card board for the shingling. Also the front doors were made from small pieces of styroboard, then I glues some wood bits on. All based in flat black, then later sponge dabbed grey over the black
I also decided to cut the pillars in half length wise, therefore allowing more floor space for more lil goodies
Soooooooooooooo, I think I have a plan and a layout at this point, I found a tree that I started modeling long ago, and decided it was time to complete it. It was made by twisting groups of tstat wiring together, then after I had a look I liked, I covered it in green stuff
Started trying to sculpt a dragon head entrance out of Sculpty, the air dry stuff, also started the cavern wall on the right middle level this was also done with the air dry sculpty. Also just to add the floor on the lowest level was done with pieces of marble look linoleum tiles.

Things starting to form up at this point, the doors were some old mage knight doors I think, those were given to me by my DM
Added layer upon layer to dragon head entrance until I got this look, found that on occasion it was good to glue some of the scultpy layers just for added strength, I used elmers wood glue max for this
Design change here, choose to do two bridges instead of just one, so added the rope bridge, also a shot of the water fall in its early stage
Water fall effect was done with a piece of plastic, hot glue textured and painted
Little blue LEDS in the back, this is when I decided...I'm gunna light this puppy up
Built a few styroboard steps, glued a door on, then also out of styroboard I fashioned the lower level walls, that's the peel the paper off one side, imprint to the foam with a pen, that flat black paint, followed by sponge dabbing grey.
made the base of the water fall out of a plastic container, based on a wood piece with a few beads glued in, painting was the same as the wall, I also have the base of my gold hoard the dragon will be standing in also out of styroboard
Wire armature fashioned for the stone archway, air dry scultpy

A close up shot of the mortuary, used the same tile floor as the lower level, and the same styroboard imprinting technique for the brick walls inside the room
Built a small sarcophagus out of wood pieces glued together, then cut a hole in the bottom to allow for the ladder access
Bridge is being modified with some of the gold chains I got from Mr Michael Johns little beads and stuff
So at this point I really needed backround for my upper level, and my god does this tree need work or what lol

So after scouring the web for days, I came across four images that I liked and that I thought I could blend via paintshop pro
with a lot of trial and error this is what I came up with...you can laugh out loud if your by yourself only
the beginnings of a base for the crappy ole tree, lol and some dowels to finish the front a bit
Little bit more paint for the cavern walls, lots more glue to hold all the sculpty bits in place
some glitter for the dragon base
the rope part of the rope bridge I did with twine and beads glued on to bamboo skewers then painted up later

Had to do touch up work with the sculpty after the sculpty dried in some places due to separation
Little bit of paint for the bridge and the tree
little bit o dragon dressing lol
added a bit more to the water fall at this point, created those two splash levels at the bottom, added light blue paint, thinned out with water
Ladder based and checked for fit...this was a plastic ladder I had bought years ago at a hobby store
the steps of doom...lol
moving right along
no moon yet...
Moon and temporary lighting installed
So that's her current state...I sure hope to have the time to finish it soon

took over an hour just to post all those pictures lol
You know, when I designed this box, I took into account having a linear path, so it really wasn't for gaming, but, I think it could be used as a quick dungeon dash...
Players would start in top left corner, entering into the cemetery, would have to journey right, across the bridge of lost souls, and find a way into the mortuary...all torches and lights currently have independent switches, that way they cant see whats in there until they light the torch, then maybe a lever or switch extends the ladder down, or magic, perhaps the color of the moon when it changes...the door on the second level where the ladder stops could be a monster ambush point, from a small empty room, then back to the left across the rope bridge over to the dragon head entrance, that entrance would lead the party down to the stairs of doom lol, bottom level, lower left, and to face the dragon to get the loot...or since dragon is removable, any creature that could fit in that 4" of space...
I don't know am I reaching here, lol
might try it, D&D on the wall mix a lil Floyd ...

This is like a Mario Brothers game. But if Mario Brothers games were more like this, I would have played them more.
This is really cool to just look at. And that dragon's head entrance reminds me of Val, from the original Star Trek episodes.
Oh, and I really like that backdrop you added. Really cool idea. You know how you've had a good idea? When people like me see it and start thinking, how could I use that idea in my campaign? It's something I hadn't thought of and I start thinking about how I could incorporate something like that. Very cool, indeed.

Hmm, you might have outdone them. And me being a Trekkie since I was 3 years old, that's saying a lot.

I am a big ST fan myself, my parents claim that I was watching it at three years old (which would have put it at the third season). As soon as I saw your model I thought of Vaal, so that's not ripping off, that's paying tribute
