Nice un-boxing. I have been looking at these on Miniature Market. What scale do you think they are? MM says 25mm, but the guy at Cheap Fantasy Miniature says 1/72. I know there is a mix of sizes because the leaders look bigger. MM has demo set for $16, which is supposed to be 134 or so minis. The studs on the bottom are to mount the minis on the unit bases.

1/72 is 1" = 6ft. Which is also 25mm for a full-sized adult humanoid figure averaging 6' tall. That was the old standard before "Heroic" creep started wrecking any continuity in gaming miniature scale. 1/72 = 25mm in other words.

Threw this together to give a size comparison of (mostly) humans from various sets I've collected from. Hope this helps give an idea of scale.

Here's a scale comparison for both Age of Mythology and Arcane Legion. If you're interested in Age of Mythology pieces, the sprues are $3 a piece and can be found here. (I also find that a 1/72 scale miniature can be made less distracting in size when you base it using a washer or other base. While a head-on view is still obvious, the base size of other 28mm miniatures can give it the right appearance.)

Just say the word and I can post a picture of each kind I have from either set. Just let me know which set(s).

Those Foo Dogs from the Hans would be perfect for my next campaign! Is there a way to get them other than through blind purchase?

So are just some of the Arcane Legions boxes randomized, or all of them?

The boosters are randomized but the base sets are not. Boosters are also not on sprues, whereas the base sets are.

A couple of things... First off, another cool video, dodobot! Second... Threw this together to give a size comparison of (mostly) humans from various sets I've collected from. Hope this helps give an idea of scale. !?!?!?!?!!?!?!? :Face palm: Dmzack, thanks for taking the time to do that! That is amazing.... I can't believe we haven't done something like that yet. Karma UP! I often have no idea how "off brand" minis compare in size to D&D/reaper minis. I have a request of you: I would like to see you start a thread in the mini gallery with a title something like "Mini scale comparison". Repost those pictures there, and maybe @aj could pin it. So many of us have collected any kind of figure we could find to use as minis. I bet in no time we could compile picture scales of most of the 'known' figure lines. As long as everyone adds a D&D or bones mini in the line up, like you did, it should be easy to tell how they compare. Freakin' genius...

So much so, that I did as you suggested and started a thread over at on the Community Miniature Gallery thread.

I got the Age of Mythology sprues. I did not like them. The detail on the figures is good, but most are too small for me. The "ogre", tall Viking and cyclops figure will work, but the poses are poor. the small Viking figures could pass as skinny dwarves.

That was the old standard before "Heroic" creep started wrecking any continuity in gaming miniature scale. 1/72 = 25mm in other words. This is technically correct, but...from my experience 1:72 scale 'model' figures can vary significantly. Some are as small as 21mm and some are as large as 26mm. The average seems to be around 22mm. This in itself does not explain the size difference between 1:72 scale 'model' figures and 25mm 'gaming' figures. Most 1:72 figures measure 25mm from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head. Most 25mm gaming figures measure from the feet to the eyes. I think this is a holdover from war gaming miniatures, where military figures often had taller headgear. The size difference has definitely been aggravated by 'scale creep', with many gaming minis being 28mm or larger. I have used mostly 25mm old lead figures in my DnD games, but added Hero Quest, DnD, Mage Knight and HeroClix figures over the years. All of the 1:72 figures I have tried seems too small, even when compared to the early 25mm lead figures.

Caesar's 1/72 scale Goblins, and Elves, are in line with the 1977 Monster Manual sizes, using 28mm Humans. I prefer the 1977 sizes, so the 1/72 scale figures are perfect, in certain applications... Cheers!
