As promised here is another update! I can't stop painting minis. I absolutely love it The first one is the mini for one of my group's PC's. She plays an eladrin warlord (D&D 4E) and wanted me to paint her mini. So that's what I did: Next I needed a wizard for a recurring NPC. Since I really enjoy the Hobbit tabletop game minis I just got myself a Gandalf mini and painted it just slightly different than Gandalf would actually look like. Then I got another one of those ancient egyptian looking giant snake riders And last but not least for this update I present you my demon prince. I don't know yet what I will need him for but I just found that mini so awesome I had to have it. I call him Melkor He will probably be one badass villain. So this is it for now. I'm kind of running out of minis to paint. I definitely need to get more and I will also keep you updated

More awesome minis from Alexis. Very cool. I hope you have luck finding more miniatures, cause I'd hate to see you run out. There's an old legend of what happens when a painter finishes their last mini, you know.
Where does the Gandalf mini come from? Is he a Hobbit mini, or one of the Lord of the Rings figures? I picked up lots of LOTR stuff, and I don't remember that version of him.

What steps do you suggest for painting? I sometimes, not always, take a wet paint brush and brush my heroclix before painting them. What about acrylic paint? I heard you should water it down a little but I don't. Can you make a video showing you painting? I'd really be interested in your technique!!

Thanks everyone Meph: I ordered it from the GW website. You can find it heremichka: He is from the Hobbit tabletop game. I found him at a local store but you can also order him from GW here. sydneysykkness: When I started painting a few weeks ago, I was extremely creative and googled "how to paint miniatures". There in the results I found this Website. I read through it and then basically just did what was explained there. It's a really good website and I can recommend anyone reading it! But I gladly explain to you how I paint my minis: Before I do anything I wash the minis with some dish soap and a old toothbrush. Then I let them dry. After that I use a special spray paint base from GW. That gives the paint that comes later something to stick to. Also you can influence the colours that you put on the top by either using a white or a black spraypaint. I use both depending on what effect I want. When that is dry I put on the colours. First a base coat for the coulours you want in the respective areas, then washes for shading and drybrushing for the highlights. I found this great video on youtube where those techniques are explained ( here) I personally use Citadel paint from GW to paint my minis. It's made for that purpose and personally I think they work great. They are just rather on the pricy side but in my opinion absolutely worth it. And you should always thin the acrylic paint down so it has about the consistency of milk. It's better to paint a few layers with the same colour than to put on one globby layer. That is just not going to look very nice. I have also made a thread talking about a wet palette. That method helped me alot with painting and thinning down the paint. You can find that here. I hope I could help you with that answer. I'm not going to make a video as of now, because I really have absolutely no experience or equipment to make a decent video.

I work with pre-painted minis (heroclix). I have been painting over the paint. Cover it in black then begin the actual painting. Is stripping the paint truly necessary?

Sorry but I don't have any experience with prepainted minis, so I don't know. But maybe someone else can help you with that. You could create a thread with that question.

the only thing i can think that would make it a problem, is the fact that the first batch of paint may rmeove some of the details once repainted. but aside from that, i dont see anything bad about repainting an already painted moni. thats a magic of paint, if you fail, paint over it.

So I changed things up a bit and tried my luck with my first base designs. I kinda ran out of minis to paint and felt like I finally had to deal with the "boring black base" issue. I was really anxious about possibly messing up the whole mini with a ugly base. Well I got over it and finally tried out some things ond some random minis. These are the first results. I've shown the minis before, the focus here lies soley on the bases ;-) I am quite happy how they turned out so far and I am definitely going to try out some other ideas. What do you guys think?

They look great. You definitely have an artist's eye, and natural talent with a paint brush. Thanks for sharing.

I have aquired some more minis and of course I have already painted some of them. I feel like I am not doing anything else than painting minis in my free time at the moment My (well my boyfriend's ) Space Marine/Terminator is still missing a nice base, but that is something I will definitely add at some point. I also had a lot of fun trying some new techniques. Feel free to give me any kind of feedback

Howdy,
I don't know how you would get started, but I suggest painting mini's for commission!
I think you would do well, Kev!

You are extremeley talented. After looking at you minis I found all of my minis hiding in the cabinet, their heads covered with tiny paper bags. They are so ashamed. :-)

The ogres look terrific, but damn that Space Marine Terminator is amazing! I'd love to see what you can do with one of the Genestealers from that game. I don't know if a base is really needed for this figure. Just jazz the one up that he comes on and you're good. If memory serves, a larger base might not fit into the tiles for that game. Then again, you could always make your own 2.5D Space Hulk tiles.

Thank you :-) The Genestealers are already waiting to be painted. ;-) My boyfriend generously gave me all of the Genestealers so that I could paint them. I'll post a pic as soon as I have done one.
