Yep, I'm already all over this one. Good idea right? Now I'm debating on how I should handle the glow in the dark ones I bought.

I was at Goodwill yesterday and saw some bags of bat rings, but the bats could be easily cut off the ring part. I almost got two bags for 99 cents, and now I'm kicking myself for putting them back.
I love swarms as a GM, but for some reason I only have a few swarm minis, and three of the ones I have, I made myself from Sculpey clay. I need to make a bat swarm and a fly swarm would also be pretty cool. The snake swarm I made was pretty easy, but the ant swarm was more difficult than I expected. I should probably go back to that Goodwill and see if they still have those bats...

I've bought a pack of the larger spiders in glow in the dark to use as Phase Spiders since they were clearish and fit large bases. The glow in the dark has a lot of uses. For spider's they make great stand ins for all the spiders that are clear or have some invisibility/phasing ability like glass, phase, ice, illusionary, shadow, ghost and invisible spiders. For phase spiders add some neon blue patterns. For ice add some white or light blue highlights. For illusionary add some neon purple highlighting. For shadow give them a black wash. For ghost maybe some neon green highlights or leave them as is and shine a black light on them. For glass and invisible use them as is.

I purchased a bag or two of those tiny spiders with the intention of making a swarm tile the the Heroes either had to pass through or that I could move towards them (all at once). I'll be using a 4" X 4" tile. I was just going to glue them on randomly. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

The way I did my ant swarm was to make the base like a small, low hill, then I put some ant parts, minus the legs, randomly around on the base, and then to put full sculpted ants on top of that. That, I think, made the mini sturdier with fewer legs to break off. But looking at it now, it might have benefited from a few random legs and antennae poking out here and there.

I know its unconventional, but when working with swarms, you might not want to limit yourself to a 4x4 tile. make a variety of bases that would be ezquilavent to a 4x4 in total surface area but different shapes. You know, like you're cutting out a puzzle comprized of tetris pieces. this way now matter the pattern the swarm moves in(since they only must occupay four "squares" adjacent to each other and not necessarily in a square pattern).

I bought a pack of black plastic ants many years ago. My intent was to use them as Giant Ants... Have you ever checked them out in the Monster Manual?... In 1st/2nd Ed., they are armored equal to Platemail + Shield! Every blessed one of them. They are scary individually, but when 100-400 of these bad boys come pouring out of their mound, it's going to be a par-tay!!! I've never used them as they would be a nightmare of destruction once unleashed... "Have a nice day fighting the endless ant tank army, Boys and Girls!"
Now for a fantasy miniatures battle game, with armies, this could be fun. As a part of my RPG campaign, they just seem like I'd be opening Pandora's Box on my gameworld. Cheers!

But at the dollar store, I just a dollar. You'll find a use for it sooner or later.

I bought some similar (probably the same but came from Amazon) glow-in-the-dark spiders to be slum runners in my latest project. Taking a photo of them glowing isn't easy but here they are in daylight.
