For those that are interested, here are a few of the minis I painted this week. The first is a Rage Drake from the Wrath of Ashardalon game. It was unpainted when I started. Had to do a little work to it to cover cracks and such. Very Pleased with the result. The second Mini is a Copper Dragon from the new D&D set of Minis "Tyranny of Dragons". It is a Repaint. Rather than strip it, I washed the mini with soap and water, and used the existing paint job a base to paint over. Gave it a thin Brown wash. Then a heavy wash of GW Agrax Earthshade in the areas I wanted to look tarnished. After that dried, I used a mixture of Reaper Flow Improver, Model color Turquoise, and Model color Verdigris to create the patina effect. in several areas. I used Turquoise to paint the eyes. I decided to use a ruins theme of the base. (Now that I am looking at the picture of the mini, I see that I forgot to paint the edges of the base black... Oops) Before the Paint Job

Gorgeous colouring on both pieces. I love how you weathered up the copper dragon. That rage drake looks lush - it has a lovely depth to it.

Awesome work, Jason. The rage drake is great, and I love the base on the copper dragon.

Whoa!... Whoa!... Lovely work. Amazing, actually. Thanks for showing and sharing, not to mention giving us all ideas on how we might color up our's. Cheers! [Hangs head. Pushes away from the computer.]

Here are a few of the minis I have completed lately. The first is a bugbear from the Reaper Bones minis line. Now I had a bit of trouble with this one. I finished the mini and was happy with it, and then did the pledge future shine in preparation for the oil wash. When I started to use the cotton swab to remove the wash from the areas I didn't want it in. It started to take all the paint down to the reaper bone layer. This is the third mini this has happened with. At first I thought maybe I didn't wash it well enough. The next mini I tried the same thing happened. Then I thought that maybe I didn't let the pledge future shine dry long enough. Happened again. I am now of the opinion that the acrylic paint is bonded with the original layer well enough. So I retouched up the areas that stripped, and called it finished. I was a bit irritated at that point. I promise it looked better before. The second mini is from the Wrath of Ashardalon game. It is the Otyugh. I think this one turned out pretty good. I had issues with the flash on the top, but it looks good enough for me. Not like I am entering any contests. Here are some metal Reaper Wolves. I like the way they came out. The eyes look really nice, although I don't in this picture you can see them very well. The last one is really just posted for the base. It is a Green Dragon from the Tyranny of Dragons minis set. I did touch up some overspray areas and repainted its tummy. Overall I thought the mini was acceptable as is. I did the base.

Jason, I am completely jealous of your abilities to paint the bugbear with Bones miniatures. I did some Bones for my first painted minis (as the ones that I posted for the Mini War of august) and they are really not easy to paint. Your bugbear is just amazing. It looks real and fearsome. Bravo. If you have any tip for the Bones miniature, let me know. We might as well make another thread for them.

I've sprayed all my bones minis with cheap spray primer. Haven't had any issues like you described... you might try that, as primer's meant to grab on and give a texture for paint to stick to.

Do you do oil washes as well? I only have the issue when I try to clean off the oil wash from the areas I don't want it in. This has only been an issue on Bones.

The only two washes I use are Citadel Agrax Earthshade (brown) and Army Painter Warpaints Quickshade Dark Tone (black). I know the Army Painter is water-based, not 100% sure on the Citadel, but I think it is as well. While washing, if I get too much in one area, I simply touch my brush to a paper towel, then use the brush to wick up the excess.

I am just going to have to switch to using acrylic based "magic wash". That is what I did with the Rage Drake and it looks good.

I did some research about the washes and the material the Bones miniatures are made of is a bit hydrophobic and repels the washes, especially in tight areas (as cracks or small holes). That was my problem and I solved it by pre-painting with spray black and then using a small brush, I just go over the cracks with my black acrylic paint. This magic wash Jason speak of should solve the problem as well as it is oil based and is super easy to do (never tried it on a mini as I just watched the video he sent me ).

My wife decided she was going to play a Female Dwarf Fighter in our next campaign. So I Painted mini up for her. Her clan name is Brightanvil So I attempted to freehand an anvil on her shield. I think she turned out pretty good. Not the greatest pic though. The camera's autofocus kept autofocusing on the dwarf's cleavage.
