Something that will no doubt make me feel inferior as it pertains to my crafting capabilities.. ..and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Basilisks!! Oh wait, that's what I guessed last time..... They're more like to be Basalisks this time, methinks. Aye, I put a vote in fer it too. Basalisks, or Cheese of Swiss.

Bulette, Bulette, Bulette!!!!
Though Basilisks are always nice, asking you to gaze into their deep pool-like eyes.
Of death.

onethatwas daveb - BASILISK! Ugh. These pictures are terrible... Oh well... So I cut the two dimetrodons apart. I sliced the middle out of both and then turned one into pairs of legs. I'm saving the tail, extra head and fins (I already have a plan for the fins). I drilled a hole down the middle of each part, so that I could make a "wire spine" to hold it all together. Just trying to glue these bits together or epoxy putty them or whatever would have ended in disaster. Here he is all assembled with his copper spine. I was able to bend him a bit to give him a little curve. I did use a little superglue to hold him together, but honestly the friction of the plastic on the wire would have worked just fine. Overkill. Here he is all puttyed up. I tried to make some wrinkles/grooves with my sculpting tools. I think it worked OK. I'll share more photos once he's painted.

I have the exact same toy that my kid has donated to my craft. I cut off the fin as well and have been trying to think of what to do with it. That looks fantastic, man!!!!

Brilliant! Love the action/movement you created by bending his spine. Cheers!

Nice technique! The end result looks very convincing. May I ask what putty you used for this?

Nice technique! The end result looks very convincing. May I ask what putty you used for this? It's Magic Sculpt Resin. Its a two-parter. I got 5 pounds of the stuff off Amazon for about $30 (I think.) It doesn't seem to dry out. You mix it when you need it and so far, it is going a long, long way. It comes in colors, but I always paint it. I bought the cheapest one -- grey.
