I started with circles of thin cardboard. Primered them black, then used this sponge to make "tiles" on the surface. Found these seed pods on the ground during my morning walk. Blown from the trees by the dust storms we are having in Phoenix. I primered them black too. I glued the pods in threes onto the circles. The result is below. I don't think he should get too close... Uh oh! Now he's done it. The pods have opened! After painting with a bit of purple, I squirted some hot glue to make the pods appropriately slimey. I have three trios "closed" and three more "open." I don't know what kind of pods these are, but they are hard wood and tough. These will stand up nicely during play.

"Mummy, what's that man doing? Is he Slenderman?" This is how I felt yesterday as I combed a playground for natural materials to take home for craft while my own children played on, blissfully ignorant of my secret diurnal activities.
I really need to find some cool seed pods, now. Those lotus things are freaky. They remind me of paper wasp nests.

I like that stuff! I used dried lotus pods to make monster spawning pods some time ago: THOSE ARE AMAZING! Too bad they don't grow in my neighborhood. I guess a trip to the dried flower section of Michaels is in order. Those would be fantastic on my 40k table...

Thanks! I have some purple "alien" minis, so I wanted to continue the theme. So where are these purple minis sir.....? Here they are. I wish I knew what brand they were. I'd like to find some more. The bottoms have an FF (the first F is backwards) and 92 (I'm assuming that's the year). The minis are K22-26 or similar. The eggs are made from Sculpey. I'm sure you'll recognize the inspiration.
